Description

A step-up from our Reference Series subwoofers, The SPL Series have best-in- class MAX output levels making them high-performance subwoofers at affordable prices. Cerametallic woofers are exceptionally light and extremely rigid, providing remarkable low frequency response with minimal cone breakup and distortion for higher, cleaner output using less amplifier power. The built- in, high efficiency amplifier features an analog preamp design, which maintains the original signal path for cleaner, true-to-source reproduction. The class D output stage ensures MAX efficiency for MAX output, detail, and low frequency power. Proprietary internal geometry that minimizes port Noise for clean undistorted low frequencies. The front-firing design allows for placement flexibility. The Klipsch wa-2 wireless subwoofer kit (sold separately) allows high resolution wireless connectivity for easy placement anywhere in your room and optimizes output and low frequency response. Connect up to 4 wa-2 wireless Kits to compatible Klipsch subwoofers in a single room for a completely wireless connection. Low pass Crossover and variable phase control allows you to tune the subwoofer to your Klipsch speakers and to your room, establishing the ideal level of bass. Line level/ LFE RCA inputs ensure compatibility with home theater receivers. Both the RCA and wireless inputs can be utilized, giving you the ability to use A single subwoofer with multiple system in the same room. For example, you can use the wireless input for your home theater set up and the RCA input for your 2-channel system, without needing to switch inputs when changing between systems. Exceptional efficiency on or off. Meets global efficiency standards - reducing energy costs for the user. Scratch resistant Ebony finish looks like real wood and covers the entire cabinet.

  • House shaking bass (in a good way)
Very impressed with the quality of this speaker both in build quality but also in the sound of it. Its plug and play as far as setup goes. Make sure to measure you space before you order because this isn't a small speaker :)

  • Works good.
Tried one of those "test" videos on YouTube that goes from 1 to 100 Hertz. You actually start hearing a clean note starting at 18 Hertz even though it's only rated for 24 Hertz. Around 36 Hertz I had to put acoustic foam pads on two nearby picture frames and the hall closet to damp out the rattle. I bought it to hear the opening notes of 2001 A Space Odyssey (A.K.A. Thus Spake Zarathustra) which is 32 Hertz. What you normally hear on reasonably good systems is the 64 Hertz first harmonic, which gives you the impression you're hearing the opening note. It also comfortably handles the lowest note on a piano, which is 27.5 Hertz. Good system. Worth the price. I'm driving it directly from a pair of Klipsch R-51PM speakers using a coax RCA audio cable. The high end on the R-51PMs doesn't matter because my ears have no high end. ... show more

  • Wow! This is a good subwoofer for under $400!
I am an audiophile, I like to hear full frequency spectrum, little distortion and loud! Well, this subwoofer seems to do the trick. Big upgrade from my old Klipsch K-100SW. Noticeable difference from the first time I hook this sub up. My god, this sub goes all the way up to +15db on my amp, speakers distorting before this subwoofer starts to fade away. I bought a SVS PB1000 for $800 at best buy and wasn’t impressed. This $360 sub is definitely outperforming the $800 SVS sub. Highly recommend this sub. And unfortunately my room have bad acoustics thanks to the 15ft vaulted ceiling and the size of the open space. This can now keep up with the towers speakers and still fill the room up with amazing bass. Can’t wait to try it with a movie tonight! Will be calibrating this better, so far so good, I love this sub! ... show more

  • Just what I needed, finally!
I don't know why it took me so long. A few years ago, I bought a 12" Polk Audio PSW505 to replace an old Sony 10" subwoofer that didn't really cut it for me as my home theater setup evolved. It's been great in most use cases, except oddly enough a lot of newer action/sci-fi movies and shows started to cause the sub to make an awful burbling/rattling noise that sounded like it was being pushed past its limits. It might be due to the audio format, I'm not 100% sure, but new shows like Star Trek: Discovery would be problematic whenever the lower frequencies increased, whereas older series wouldn't have any trouble. I had tried adjusting the low pass filter and the volume, but the only way to really solve the issue was to turn the volume down so far that it basically defeated the purpose of having the subwoofer in the first place. So I'm not sure what was going on there. At any rate, a while back I upgraded my front towers and center channel to Klipsch RP-series monsters and I had been holding off on the subwoofer, but I finally pulled the trigger after dealing with that rattling from the Polk for too long, and bought the SPL-120. Problem solved! Strong, house-shaking bass with no rattle. Strong enough that I dialed it down a bit to keep it from overpowering the rest of the audio. Strong enough that when an explosion hit on screen, my girlfriend at the other end of the house went "holy crap!" ... show more

  • It added a whole new depth to my system
I updated my whole system with the Klipsch line. I have two R120 subs and the sound was good, but there was a low end depth that was missing. I wanted to add one more sub to and place it behind my front sound stage. I looked at many options. All of the options I looked were over 1k. I really didn't want to spend that kind of money, and I wanted to stay with Klipsch. The new line that came out caught my attention, but they were out of the price range I wanted to pay. So I looked at this one. I knew that the SPL was highly rated, and I did not want a rear port sub. I couldn't find this sub anywhere until I went on amazon, and to my surprise it was on sale. It was actually cheaper than both of the subs I purchased and out performs both of them . I am very happy with my purchase, and the base is deep and clear. I like this sub because It knows its place in my system and can deliver when it's called on. ... show more

  • AMP prone to failure.
The amps are very unreliable. It sounded great but after 1 year the amp failed. Klipsch agreed to send a replacement but that process is taking over 2 months. I would strongly stay away from Klipsch for subwoofers and go with a company like SVS who has better support and products.

  • Very good integration with Klipsch Reference speaker system.
This is a subwoofer that is vented from the same side as the driver. At normal listening levels, bass is tight and integrates well with the other speakers. It has an auto on feature, but the three position switch was not well marked on the back panel. There is a power on light located on the front panel that is visible through the front grill. If the signal to the sub isn't strong enough to keep the sub on, then the "always on" position will keep the sub on through the listening session. The reason for the four star rating is that the auto on feature doesn't work for me at the levels that I listen at. The finish on the SPL-120 is a perfect match to my Klipsch Reference floor standing speakers in black. ... show more
