  • Very crisp sound, a well made product.
My home theater system is a big mismatch of speaker brand pairs. For the size room they fill, I never really thought they sounded bad, they provide a rich sound but the center channel often got overwhelmed by all the other channels making it hard to hear dialogue clearly in action scenes. I started to remedy this by swapping out some of my speakers with Klipsch Reference series speakers, though I will likely still find uses for my current speakers. :) Starting with the very old center speaker, the Polk Audio Monitor Series CS1. I swapped out with this product. The first thing noticed is that the audio was extremely crisp in comparison while the Polk had a warmer sound signature. The Polk had a base port in back of it so more base was generated from the center which seems unnecessary because I already had a dedicated sub for the job. With the dedicated subwoofer disconnected, I have to say the sound wasn't as full on its own when compared to the CS1 but it was noticeably very clear. Based off the power rating of this speaker; I may never see its full potential with my current amplifier lacking in the wattage department to the center channel, so it is possible this speaker can sound even better with a pending upgrade to my current home theater receiver which is also very old. The Good: Strong build quality. I've never owned Klipsch speakers in the passed but always admired their design. I love the way the speaker looks without the grill. It really pops and stand out without the grill and can blend in and not be noticed with the grill. I like how well the grill remain in place but yet easy to remove as it is held by magnets. The speaker has a very clean design that compliments its very clean sound. The Bad: It feels like these speakers have no base presence whatsoever when compared to the old CS1 but I don't really mind it as all the remaining speakers on my 7.1 setup are filling in all the different frequency range so I have a crisp punchy sound overall. Overall, this speaker cleans dialog a lot and gives a very crisp presentation depending on what you are upgrading from. I'm sure Polk have other center speakers that can do the same job, but I'm don't regret trying a different brand. This was a good upgrade to by prior speaker. I can't wait to hear how much better it can get once I compliment it with a beefier home theater receiver that can supply it the power it needs. ... show more

  • Wow! The clarity is amazing.
I wouldn’t call myself a Klipsch fan boy but I’ve owned many of their speakers over the years, and I am usually very pleased with them with a couple of notable exceptions. Strangely, as a result of this, I really try to pick apart and find flaws when I get a new set of Klipsch speakers. This looks like it is the companion center speaker to the stereo Klipsch R40m bookshelf speakers. It has the same really incredibly good looks, striking really, and are comparable in size. Those speakers proved to be excellent performers for music listening well they surprisingly fall throaty bass given their size. But these guys don’t have to deliver base their job is to deliver crystal clear vocal range sound and they do it flawlessly. If you close your eyes it sounds like the people speaking on the Blu-ray or in the middle of your living room and it is something else to listen to. I’m driving these on a Sony ES Surround sound receiver. This is not a cheap center speaker but the one that I am swapping it out for cost four times what this unit does and I’m having a hard time telling the difference. This one is also a lot easier to drive. It’s a very efficient speaker which means you can get a lot out of it with a very low powered amplifier. This gives you a lot of flexibility in customizing your set up. You can create a very compact surround system with that very small amplifier and still get that very big theater sound. I have some giant amplifiers but I never have as much fun as when I blow the doors off of somebody’s ears with a really tiny box and show them just what good design and efficient electrical engineering can do. This may be the best center speaker for the money I’ve heard. The R50-C is really punching above its weight class right here. And makes me wish I had more surround sound TVs to hook them up to. Just don’t let anybody who uses a soundbar listen to this because they will never be happy again. ... show more

  • Another great center speaker
I will admit that I have a bias. Every speaker in my house is a Klipsch speaker, from the complete surround sound system in my office to the speakers that power my main TV room and the speakers on my computer desk, I am a huge fan of the sound Klipsch produces. This Klipsch Reference Next-Generation R-50C replaces the R-25C that has been used as my center speaker in my main TV watching room. The R-25C is over 5 years old and is powered by a Denon X-1440H receiver. I replaced the speaker with the new R-50C, using the same receiver and high grade speaker wire. After listening to different TV stations for about an hour, I concluded that the speakers sound about the same. The volume level was identical for both speakers, and the R-50C did not produce voices any louder than the other speaker. Yes, it was crystal clear, but not better than the R-25C. However, when I switched to the PS5, I can clearly hear that the R-50C produces more bass than the other speaker. Just listening to the PS5 main menu while leaving it on Spiderman: Miles Morales, I could hear the punch significantly more than the R-25C. Playing the game sounds better too, so I am concluding that the sound output from you devices will change how you view this speaker. For regular TV, is it about the same as the R-25C. For games and movies through the PS5, there is definite improvement in sound quality. If you are looking to add this to your setup as a center speaker, I highly recommend you get the R-50C. ... show more
