The R-12SW features a 12-inch copper-spun IMG driver that provides remarkably low frequency response with minimal cone breakup and distortion. The built-in all-digital amplifier delivers ample power with high efficiency and true-to-source accuracy in reproduction. The low pass crossover and phase control allows you to blend the subwoofer's low-frequency tones with other Klipsch speakers as well as establish the ideal level of bass. The R-12SW is housed in a durable MDF cabinet and finished with a brushed black polymer veneer. The front-mounted LED power indicator lets you know when the system is powered on or off. I picked this up via Woot through Amazon at a really nice price. This was the last item I needed in order to fill out my Klipsch home theater. I have this paired with a 5.1 set of bookshelf reference speakers and it was the cherry on top. Initial setup sounded pretty terrible due to the settings I was utilizing for the previous underpowered 8" sub I was using, a Polk Audio. It was gifted to me so...To the point, I had to spend about three hours recalling, looking up manuals and frequency charts going through various settings on the Denon receiver in order to produce the correct sound. The first setup on prior settings was super muddy and overpowering. I took the time to adjust the crossover settings and gain level and was able to get the new sub performing as was expected. It is very powerful and very heavy on presence. It sounds good throughout it's power and volume range and matches well to the reference speakers I already had completed. Highly recommended if you want very punchy, very powerful bass. It sounds really good both with media content as well as various forms of music. I would say the only down side to the speaker is it's tendency to be muddy/strong. The price this was on sale for and it's pairing with the other components on hand is solid. As a side note, and not a reflection on Woot (the seller) but as a note of warning and caution for Amazon specifically in regard to their delivery drivers. I was out of town on the projected delivery date. It was unavoidable due to scheduling and at the price was afraid it would be gone when I got back. I got a notification that it was "delivered and handed directly to a resident". I called my son who was home and asked him about it and he said it was not here. The driver did NOT take a picture of the item like they commonly do. This aspect was quite worrisome considering the cost of the item. Right about the time as I was about to contact Amazon about the issue the item turned up on the middle of my driveway at 8:45 PM. It was only packed in it's retail box, no covering, plainly obvious as to what it was. I am super glad that I live in an area that is both low in crime and a dead end neighborhood. This could EASILY have walked off. It would be worthwhile for Amazon to discuss with their drivers appropriate CYA in regard to items like this. Dropping off some $5 item "wherever" is one this....this, well... In spite of that SNAFU if the speaker is available for that sub dual bill sale price it's more than a steal of a deal. This subwoofer replaced a 200 Watt peak Klipsch 10" subwoofer I had for my home theatre previously and performs amazingly. You can't go wrong with it. It was less expensive than the old one I bought 20 years ago. Progress.

    • Hear the bottom octave of modern music for the first time

This unit replaced a powered Boston 12" subwoofer in my home theater system. The rest of the system is a Denon 5.1+ system with Boston A150 mains, the Boston center speaker and small Boston shelf speakers for surround. My Denon AV receiver sends everything above 80 Hz to the Boston speakers, so I have the Klipsch sub set to take over at 80 Hz. I had to turn down the gain to balance with the rest of my system, so the amp in the sub is more than powerful enough. Immediately, I could hear low bass that was not being produced by my prior Boston sub, particularly on music with a synthesizer bass. Action movies have extra punch. The lows are tight, without any boom. I was also surprised to notice that I could easily hear my system with the volume turned lower than usual, because everything was more solid, even when the low bass was not prominent. My setup easily allows a wired connection to the sub, so the higher priced models with a wireless connection would not be useful to me. The sub is not gorgeous to look at, but it also disappears, because it is black. The packaging it came in was outstanding, as it had to be to protect a heavy speaker. On top of all of that, the price is a steal, even though it went down $20 since I bought mine. :( ... show more

Very good subwoofer for the price point! I had to go in on my receiver and dial the bass down below half and it still vibrates the walls. Auto on and off works great! I would recommend this sub and I would purchase again!

I have this connected to a Onkyo TX-NR696 that has crossover settings specifically for Klipsch speakers. This will accommodate mid to large rooms. The back has 2 adjustments to fit the speakers you already have. For example if this subwoofer is louder than your speakers you can turn it down so it blends and not overtakes your speakers. My old subwoofer went bad so I was shopping for a replacement but most that fit what I was looking for were priced above what I was willing to pay until I saw the Klipsch. After reading the reviews and checking the specs I ordered it. I was very surprised and impressed after hooking it up. The sound is excellent and at a reasonable price.
