Overall, I am very pleased with Klein MM720 Digital Auto-Ranging Multimeter. The meter seems very durable, its easy to handle and to operate. The display is Awesome, bright, and easy to see under any lighting. The meter is very versatile since it can measure AC/DC voltages, resistance, capacitance, frequency, and temperature to name a few. The meter is very well made and the Orange case makes it easy to see. The function control is very solid and locks at every point on the dial. No wiggle. One minor annoyance is that its default mode is set to power the meter off after 5 minutes. This takes awhile to get used to but it can easily be defeated. I'm glad I purchased a "hard case" for the meter and the accessories. The case provides a rigid enclosure to protect it from scratches and damage while in your toolbox. This Klien does not disappoint! Display is large and clear. Build quality is sturdy - 6 foot drop rating and the case feels like it would absorb some shock if dropped. (not just hard plastic like my old one). Selector switch is firm and holds its position, not lose or wobbly. And for an added bonus, the BEEP speaker is loud and can be heard. My 39-year-old Radio shack Multi meter finally started flaking out. Worst part was the hard to read LCD display. Sunlight would often wash it out and make it difficult to read outside. I decided to throw in a little extra cash for a higher quality multi-meter. Hope this helps you on your decision for a Multi-meter at this price point. There are cheaper ones out there, but if you need something that will last, and will cover most of your basic electrical testing, this one seems to be well bult. ... show more

I needed a multimeter better than the one I had to help troubleshoot problems with the newer vehicles. I can't afford the ones from the tool trucks. I've always had good luck with my other Klein tools so after looking at all my options I went with this one. It does everything that the more expensive ones do at an affordable price. It's well built and easy to read. I ordered the magnetic strap to go with it that I attach to the hood and it keeps the meter at eyesight for me. I'm extremely pleased with it. ... show more

Good so far. Easy to read, stable display and seems accurate. Use disposable Eveready lithium AAA batteries for loooong battery life and almost zero chance of leakage. My last multimeter was destroyed when no-name alkaline cells leaked.

    • Great value vs the likes of a Fluke 117 but falls short in one key area for me

I wanted to upgrade my current multimeter and the Klein MM720 seemed to check all the boxes. Great value for the features, excellent display, rugged. I needed the LoZ feature and the choice of meters is limited. Upon my first use of the Klein on a 12v car battery I thought something was wrong. I stuck the probes on and surprisingly it took a few seconds to come up with a reading. Hmm. So I tried again and same thing. Tried other batteries and same thing. It was taking a couple+ seconds to stabilize on a reading. After reading some other posts I eventually found others with the same comment and I knew it was not me causing it. For whatever reason this meter is just slow to show. Too slow to show for me. It might be just fine for others but I need a quicker response time. I read reviews prior to purchase but just not enough to weed out uncovering this particular DC response time. I found you can set the DC range manually and if you set it within the range you are measuring you will get a very quick response. This meter as with most meters comes up Auto ranging. And that Auto ranging seems to be where the slow down originates. Setting it to manual though takes a little extra effort especially if you want that quick response each and every time you power up. Miss the correct manual range and you get an OL until you set the right range thus taking even more time. I also did a couple checks with AC voltage and the gap between the two is less than DC but the Fluke 117 is still quicker. I did not end up checking any other performance parameters of the MM720. I decided to just make the jump in investment to the Fluke 117. That got me the LoZ of course plus automatic AC/DC selection and built in NCV tester or voltage stick. I lose temp but that is ok. Downside it is considerably more expensive. More than I wanted to spend but Merry Christmas to myself I guess. I expect it to last a very very long time. The video shows the comparison between the 117 and 720 clearly showing a pretty close to immediate result vs a couple seconds using a slightly discharged 12v UPS battery. Could very well be a non-issue for many users. All in all this Klein MM720 would likely be a great tool addition for many. It can't be beat for the features it provides. Performance is not where I need it to be in the DC voltage area. From what I experienced I would still recommend the Klein MM720 especially compared to the multitude of extremely inexpensive meters you find. It would still be a great investment for many at its price point. ... show more
