An incredibly handy tool for a homeowner to have. Works well to determine which breakers go to which outlets/lights/random loose wires in the basement. Unless your breaker box has detailed labels, this is well worth the money. I highly recommend. Amazon also wants me to talk about fit...one size fits me AND you!

First, this circuit breaker finder has saved me an immense amount of time, and, lets me work with electrical wiring without a second person flipping the breaker as I shout back (or call on my cell phone). However, it didn't always pinpoint the breaker but would sound off as it was moved close to it. So you end up knowing it's one of two or three breakers that switch the targeted line. But that alone has saved me a lot of time. I recommend always doing a test on the line indicated before you begin to splice and attach any hot wires.

Why don't electricians mark circuit breakers? Is it really that hard? I don't know; maybe they leave them unmarked intentionally hoping that you'll call them everytime you want to replace a light switch. I had a lot of light switches to swap out for smart switches. I really didn't want to shut the power off at the main breaker, because it takes forever for my router to resync, and sometimes it won't reconnect to the internet for hours. I ordered this with the intention of getting all my breakers marked. Operation is pretty simple. You plug the transmitter device into a power outlet and take the probe to your circuit breaker box. You run the probe along the breakers and it lets you know which one is controlling the circuit your transmitter is plugged into. There is also an adaptor that lets you screw the transmitter into a light bulb socket. It took me about 2 hours to get all my breakers identified, but it was well worth the time.
