Any do-it-yourself handyperson has occasion to work on an electric circuit that is not labeled within the circuit breaker box. So you have to either play the "trip and check" game or you can use this tool to accurately find the correct circuit. Doing so allows you to remove electricity by "popping" the correct circuit breaker and safely working on a "cold" circuit. This tool is a multi use tool with a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor) tester, a circuit wiring indicator, and a tone indicator for finding the circuit. It comes with a lamp socket circuit tester and a two alligator clip wires connector. Why don't electricians mark circuit breakers? Is it really that hard? I don't know; maybe they leave them unmarked intentionally hoping that you'll call them everytime you want to replace a light switch. I had a lot of light switches to swap out for smart switches. I really didn't want to shut the power off at the main breaker, because it takes forever for my router to resync, and sometimes it won't reconnect to the internet for hours. I ordered this with the intention of getting all my breakers marked. Operation is pretty simple. You plug the transmitter device into a power outlet and take the probe to your circuit breaker box. You run the probe along the breakers and it lets you know which one is controlling the circuit your transmitter is plugged into. There is also an adaptor that lets you screw the transmitter into a light bulb socket. It took me about 2 hours to get all my breakers identified, but it was well worth the time.
