After owning several Cusinart SmartStick blenders (all of which inevitably broke due to a gear-stripping problem that you can read about in several reviews of its various models), I decided to look for something else. I can't believe I didn't find this KitchenAid hand blender before: it's reasonably priced (in the same range as the SmartStick when I bought it, plus as I found out later they have other models of the KitchenAid that cost less and don't include some of the "extras" but presumably share the KitchenAid's better design) and works quite well. If you're familiar with the SmartStick, it has everything I like about that. Most importantly, it blends well. Additionally, the blade shaft comes off for easy cleaning. It also includes a mixing/blending cup that is sized well to fit the blade shaft, though I happen to like the design of Cuisinart's better (which, given the "lip," also works well for serving or pouring, unlike this one, plus it's wider and a bit less tall which I think works better for blending larger chunks of food). Finally, it has adjustable speed (three in this case, though I got by with even a 1-speed Cuisinart--who also makes at least a 2-speed model I've used as well--just fine). The KitchenAid blender also includes some "extras" besides just the stick blender. Besides the blade shaft (which you'll use for regular stick blending, likely with the included cup), they include a small chopper as well as a whisk attachment. I've never used the whisk but assume it would work well; I have tried to use the chopper but don't recommend buying it just for that purpose. In my case, the lid is very hard to remove afterwards because it seems to create a vacuum inside (or at least a pressure difference) that makes the lid very difficult to remove, a problem that is exaggerated if you have liquid ingredients that might get stuck in the seal. I ended up having to throw mine out after the lid got stuck on so tight I couldn't get it off and accidentally broke it trying. It also includes a carrying bag for some of these accessories, which may be nice if you move yours around a lot (but mine just stays in the kitchen). My favorite thing about this blender is that the place where the blade attaches appears to be metal, which I assume will last much longer than the plastic on the Cuisinarts that kept getting destroyed on me after a few months to a couple years (quite variable) of daily use. The KitchenAid is holding up well for me so far after almost a year, still with nearly daily use, and I hope it continues to do the same. If you use your stick blender frequently like I do, I'd highly recommend this one (or a similar KitchenAid) over the Cuisinart SmartStick. If you use yours infrequently, either one should work well, so you may want to factor in other criteria like purchase price (though they weren't that different when I wrote this) or aesthetics (the Cusinart is mostly plastic, but the KitchenAid only has plastic on the motor section; the Cuisinart is available in more colors, but it appears this one is only silver/gray).

I have owned this hand blender for over 4 years. The hand blender has worked very well. I like the 3 different speeds and the relatively easy to use parts that are all dishwasher safe, except for the food chopper. The hand blender has made wonderful smoothies and all kinds of wonder pureed sauces. However, I will say that the plastic blender cup that it came with is very easily scratched, despite being very careful when using it. Also, the cup is very prone to splashing, no matter how slowly I try to go, I will occasionally still get splashed all over the counter and wasting a lot of food. I wish the blender cup came with a lid with a hole in the middle that fits over the immersion part of the blender so food doesn't fly out. Also, after just a couple of uses of the chopper attachment, I noticed water was trapped inside the lid and no amount of shaking could get it out. No matter how I tried to get the water out, I could still hear water swooshing around inside the lid. Then the lid started to smell and after further investigating, there appeared to be a small amount of brown water leaking out which grossed me out. I just stopped using the chopper attachment and stuck it inside the back of my cupboard until I recently was cleaning and found it sitting back there. I feel ripped off that I paid more for this set rather than just getting the hand blender alone. I just searched for a replacement chopper from KitchenAid and found that this is a common issue on KitchenAid's website based on the reviews dating back to 2015 with an average rating of 2 stars! It doesn't appear that KitchenAid has completely fixed the obvious design flaw in the chopper attachment. Thus, I can't recommend this set until KitchenAid has redesigned the chopper attachment. I would just get the hand blender alone without the chopper attachment. I gave the hand blender 4 stars because it works well alone and I didn't feel it would be fair to rate the hand blender poorly due to the chopper attachment.

I had an old KitchenAid immersion blender for years and loved it. This immersion blender is a disappointment. It is nowhere near as well made as the older model -- materials are cheap and the blender does not have as much power. The blending arm and whisk attachment do not lock securely in place requiring me to hold the attachments in place while using the blender.

CuisineArt version of the hand blender is much better. This is obviously a cheaper-made version, which I did not expect from KitchenAid. The blender arm tends to not hold well on the base. The chopper doesn't chop much. I tried carrots with no success and herbs just kept turning without chopping. Onions were ok. The power is weak. I have been using hand blender for 20 years so I know what I expect from it. My trying the KitchenAid brand was a real bad move. What a disappointment!

I really didn't like this blender, it's not powerful enough. I used to have the old Kitchenaid immersion blender and it was my favorite kitchen gadget, I would blend and chop anything with it, after 10 years of everyday use it finally broke. The chopper attachment in this blender couldn't handle baby carrots. I exchanged it for the Braun that is a little more expensive but it works much better.
