  • Love this
For small batch stuff this works fantastically but you got to know only small batch!

  • I Know I Can, I Know I Can
My first batch turned out so wrong. Most likely too much water. I bought this to distill my own essential oils. I also think not using a flat top stove burner would help. Looking at getting a camp stove, will update once I do that.

  • Not real Copper, plated stainless steel
I needed a small distillation pot and I prefer not to use an air distiller. This was the size I need 1.5 gallon and it fits the bill. I cleaned it and ran a sacrifice batch, worked perfectly (you do need a pump if you don’t have one) they advertised it is a copper pot (both pots) but they are not, it is plated stainless steel. The only copper is the tubes. I gave it four stars because it is functional and much easier than making my own. Though if it was sold for $35 it would be a fair price. Photo is after one cleaning and sacrifice run. ... show more

  • Just QUALITY parts and materials noted.
VERY QUALITY made-solid, precise fitting snaps for the lid. Perfect sealing lid. Very smooth, rolled at ends. Water connections are very thick and seem to have very high nylon content (not brittle). Pressure guage is joined onto lid very securely and squarely. Overall, a very precisely made, impressive product! The results will depend 100% upon the skill, knowledge, and experience of the USER-one cannot blame this set up! Hint-use High heat at first, then lower gradually to avoid over pressurizing. Think of arriving at an icy cold camping cabin with a fireplace-use a rip roaring full blast fire, then back down when it gets comfy inside. It may be illegal to distill ethyl alcohol in your area, so the reason for having it is for distilling drinking water in an emergency. ... show more

  • Perfect for my use!
I was looking for a little still to take the minerals out of our hard water. This one is actually geared to making alcoholic beverages and it comes with recipes! I had investigated making my own but this one is well made and will do a better job than anything I could piece together. With a little setup I was able to distill water. My son has some old cheap wine and now he wants to try to make brandy! It’s good to think about how you are going to cool down the steam—a five gallon bucket of cold water and ice (not included) will help. ... show more

  • Flimsy with serrated edges
Final update: Unable to get the unit to work reliably. I have finalized the return process and am awaiting pickup. I do not suggest you purchase this unless you are quite willing to go through an extensive series of modifications. The final straw for me was the unit blasting out all my water as steam from under the lid. Original: I almost cut my hand on the lid's edge while unboxing. The lid and the pot have quite jagged edges. The manufacturing quality is very poor, and the whole unit feels dissatisfying and flimsy. I'll be seeking a refund. Update: No communication from the company RE: refund. I did try to use the device again, to see if I would be more charitable. It is leaking from the lid while distilling water for the humidifier. The edges of the lid and pots are so sharp, I decided to take a picture to prove they will eventually cut you. Really not a good device. Pictures attached showing crease in skin, steam leak, and water dripping down "sealed" pot. ... show more

  • Best starter
Just do it. You won’t find a better price for this quality. Super easy to assemble no leakage, medium size and can fit in your cabinets for easy storage. The best part is the quality of a product you’re getting for the price.

  • Time consuming/Odd Residue/Maybe for alcohol or specialty
I should start by saying that I purchased this for distilling water. Overall the construction met my expectations and I'm happy with the product. The Good: Once you get everything set up and the liquid is boiling it produces at a steady rate. The way you cool your coils will have a large effect on output. More on that bellow. The Bad: 1. You're boiling water. It takes time. Don't expect to fire up your heat source and have distilled liquid coming out for at least an hour or more. A full run will take you all day. I set up my process on my days off as soon as I got up in the morning, checked on it periodically throughout the day, and got 1 gallon of output for 8 hours. 2. I started noticing an odd residue in my output. I'm using this water in my CPAP machine. With store bought water I never saw a residue develop between cleanings. As I approached my scheduled cleaning, my CPAP water basin would be coated with a white residue and I would start noticing tiny white floaters. No clue what it was, the glass jug I was storing the water in was crystal clear. Still don't know, but I've switched back to store bought and I'm looking for alternative distilled sources so I don't use a ton of plastic jugs every year. That's it for my review portion, but I mentioned the cooling coils. If you use the cooling bath as designed you will get product but you'll also have a small amount of steam loss. I found two methods of eliminating the steam loss. Method 1: place an icepack in the middle of your coil bath, and change it out regularly. Method 2: Go to your local hardware store and buy some more copper tubing and fittings. You'll be making an air cooled coil. I found that if I attached it between the boil pot and the cooling bath coils I got the best output. However, I did that because it fit my space. I also think that if you put the air cooled coil after the water bath coils you'd have similar results. Regardless of how you cool your coils, the steam output of the boiling pot is greater than the cooling bath coils can handle. If you have a really cold source of water to cool the coils you'll be fine, but tap water is just a bit to warm to effectivly do the job. ... show more
