  • Great, but...
Great, full sound, beautiful silver plating and engraving, my only complaint is that the slide fit was horrendous! When placed vertically, the main tuning slide slowly falls out. Third tuning slide was too tight to use to tune the D and Db. Second valve slide was really tight. This would not be a big deal except for the lack of a third slide water key, and removing the second valve slide is the easiest way to drain this slide. I got all the slides refit for $30, but this should have been noticed in the factory for a $1400-$1600 trumpet. ... show more

  • This Trumpet is GREAT!
My 14 year old Daughter is an accomplished trumpet player. She's been First Trumpet in 2 bands at school for years, and we promised her an upgrade before she entered High School next year. She's been clomping along with clearly inferior trumpets (Suzuki, Conn) and the 1st day she played in Band with this, she came home ecstatic! She's just crazy over this instrument. She's playing next Saturday in a juried Solo Competition, and her confidence level is sky high. This is a VERY reasonable price for a trumpet of this quality. Yamaha USED to be the gold standard, but that was before they sent their stuff to China to be made. They have NOT lowered their prices since that decision! The case for this thing is a mile over what we're used to, the finish on this instrument is amazing, and my girl really likes the "slide". She practices on it almost daily, and we're very thankful to Amazon for offering us this option! ... show more

The trumpet was really nice, but it developed a dark mark/tarnish after a couple of weeks. We sent it back and received a full refund. I hated to send it back because it was so beautiful, but it was too expensive to keep with a flaw.

  • not good Idea to buy major expensive items off internet , buy from store where you can see and test item
Defective machining made this product unusable -valves kept sticking , Valves stuck constantly even though I cleaned and lubricated them. Valves not even lined up with each other ,third valve hitting the valve cap enclosure. Returned this product to seller.

  • Glory Days No More
All through high school and college and into my professional music career my King Silver Flair was the source of great pride for me. I spent sometimes 8-14 hours a day with my trumpet and it never let me down. That was back in the 70s and 80s. I took a slight detour into film and video and just recently I decided to get back into music and relive my “glory days” with a brand new King Silver Flair. Well, I didn’t do my research and quickly found out that the horn of my past was gone forever. The Silver Flair is now manufactured by someone else and they’ve clearly downgraded the quality from professional to intermediate at best. It was evident from the first few notes I played. That once tight, smooth bore sound that I was so proud of was now a wide, lumbering blob of air. It’s hard to explain in words how I know it just wasn’t the same, but it most definitely wasn’t. And to add insult to injury the third valve was sluggish. No matter how much valve oil I applied it just wouldn’t respond. Then, as if to say “you really screwed up with this one, Glen” the 2nd valve inexplicably froze in the downward position! I unscrewed the cap and put in more oil and primed it. Then the 1st one did the same thing, I kid you not! I promptly shipped it back and bought the horn I should have purchased in the first place; the top of the line (and elusive in high school because of the cost) Bach Stradivarius. I’m sad to say the King Silver Flair is a piece of crap and I learned a valuable lesson. Glory days are best left in the past. So I’m starting a new chapter with the horn I thought I couldn’t have as a kid. Don’t waste your time with the new version of the King Silver Flair. You’ll be terribly disappointed. ... show more

First 2 valves are not as fast as the third one, but hope with use will move just as fast, over all a great horn for the price.

  • King Silver Flair Trumpet
My son loves the Trumpet. The reason we chose the King Silver Flair for him is he had a beginner model & he is playing more advanced music that this model will let him play without having to buy a (professional) model. I recommend this trumpet for anyone that wants to get a better model without paying a higher price! ... show more
