So I was the person who said I would never get a kindle because there’s just something about holding a physical book. While I do still read physical books sometimes, this is a game changer for travel. Packing books is obviously hard especially for flying. I tend to read 4-5 books on vacations so that’s a lot of books and weight. Having the kindle makes it so much easier and I can download whatever I want to read when I’m ready. There is so much to love about this new Kindle. This replaced a 10-year old paperwhite. The battery life is amazing! The size is perfect and the weight is great. It is taking some time to get accustomed to the new interface. So much has changed and you just have to explore to learn how to use it. If you're a serious reader, this is essential. I have long run out of space for printed books and, living in an isolated country, I have trouble accessing certain out-of-print titles. For this reason a Kindle became essential. After reading on an iPad using the kindle app for many years, I finally decided to go the whole hog and get the actual device. Very glad I did! The quality of the screen is better for reading, most ostensibly due to the ability to read in full daylight without annoying reflections on the screen. The Kindle is also much lighter and the battery life is excellent. It's dedicated to reading and that's all it does! The best thing is the ability to go look for a book, find it (usually, unfortunately not everything is available as an e-book) and have it on my kindle in an instant. Rather than waiting several weeks (and paying exorbitant postage) before it arrives. If you like to read and don't have one yet, I can highly recommend it. I am enjoying this, easier on my eyes and lighter in weight than my previous reader, and so seldom needs charging. Nice! I do miss the ability to change colors of highlights (useful with multiple narrators and timelines) but it hasn't been a serious problem. A welcome upgrade!

The Kindle Fire HD tablet was my primary reading device for over ten years. I loved its rich, crisp, vibrant, full color display, intuitive navigation, and immediate, accurate responsiveness. This year, Amazon stopped supporting the device's software and I could no longer use it to purchase and download content. I decided to try the new Kindle Paperwhite (PW). The PW is a great reader with long battery life and a large amount of storage capacity. I love that it is readable even in bright daylight. It is lightweight and easily fits in a purse. But navigation is slow, sometimes inaccurate and unnecessarily convoluted. The bland black and white display, not as crisp or bright as the Kindle Fire HD, makes browsing books on Amazon less interesting and therefore an abbreviated experience. Should I mention the constant emails and ads to buy more books, which didn't seem to occur with such frequency on the Kindle Fire? Bottom line: If you have always used a dedicated reader, you will likely find the PW an excellent device with many positives. I hope that responsiveness and frequent hiccups are worked out in later versions. ... show more

Kindle makes the best quality reading devices and this new model did not disappoint. It is lighter and better looking than the previous model and works with a better battery.
