It’s easy to place the small water leak detector under sinks, in laundry rooms, next to kitchen appliances such as dishwashers or refrigerators, in garages, basements, or behind water heaters — anywhere at risk for leaks or freezes. When the water alarm detects water or a significant drop in temperature, it emits a series of 85-decibel alarms and sends a mobile alert to your phone. They alert almost right away to whats going on. I had one on the higher side of the floor without realizing so when I did get a leak it didn't know because it was on the "high ground". The app and wifi worked pretty well but had a little issue connecting my second unit at first. They will trigger a temperature change alert by just changing rooms so pretty sensitive but your flood alerts require full water contact so pick your spots properly. ... show more

Setup is straightforward. App is a little busy. I had trouble figuring out where to click when testing the alarm. FYI: no SMS notifications. Email and push only. iOS app supports FaceID, but not TouchID. Biggest issue IMO is that you need to be on the same SSID (Kidde says same network, but they mean SSID) to hush an alarm. Two issues with this: can’t remotely hush, and can’t hush if the device is on an SSID that’s different from your device. I put my smart devices on a separate guest network. To hush this device, I need to connect my phone or iPad to the guest network. Huge limitation. ... show more

One cantankerous little device to get connected. But once connected it works very well. Tested it with water and it sets off immediately.

    • Defective and Out of Warranty
The item misleadingly says it's sold by Amazon but it's actually sold by a third party who sells it to Amazon. The distinction is important because the third party "KC" is selling units that are past their warranty date. So while it appears you are getting a new item from Kidde, Kidde will not warranty or support the item. Mine arrived with batteries that were leaking battery acid, and it did not work when I installed new batteries. It's concerning that this is so dubious and misleading. ... show more

    • Solid 10! Superior to other brands I’ve tried
This Kidde sensor is worth twice what I paid. My only minor complaint is the Alexa skill offers no added value. We actually received an email from a real person after the app offered to let me share its failure log with Kidde during setup. I realized later I was simply typing my WiFi password incorrectly. They followed up on the log within one day which is amazing. Extremely reliable for travelers and requires no subscription for its incredibly reliable push notifications. The sensor begins sending early warnings if the temperature suddenly fluctuates. The leak sensor will trigger a unique alarm on your phone that you can’t ignore and repeats until you agree to discard the instance. The sensor also sends daily updates to demonstrate it’s still working. The sensor doesn’t appear to be water proof on top so shouldn’t be placed where it could become submerged. I bought first one for laundry room but will be buying more for garage and maybe kitchen sink. Best product I’ve purchased this year for its functionality compared to competitors. ... show more

After downloading the app and following the instructions it was pretty easy to set up. It’s pretty small and battery powdered so easy to hide or put wherever you need.

    • Worked well until one didn’t.
I bought two of these. They connected easily to my wifi, and do detect water and beep/alert to my phone - so they fulfill their primary purpose. But one of the two fell off the wifi network about 3 months after purchase and I wasn’t able to get it reconnected. The other also fell off - I suspect we had a brief power loss/wifi restart - but was easy to reconnect. I ultimately had to replace the offline one. I did get another one of these to replace it - haven’t found anything better for the purpose. ... show more
