  • Relatively quick and easy installation. Few real downsides
We were looking for a device to keep us from leaving the water running mistakenly. This seems like a good solution to let us be aware of the mistake. The only thing missing is it's ability to actually shut off the system without out us being there. We knew this and for the price and ease of self installation it seems a fair trade. I would also have like a windows interface, but I will live with the phone only connectivity. ... show more

  • Flume controls all aspects of the device
For some reason you can't restart the installation process without Flume's consent if there's an error during setup. I had to contact Flume support. And then the agent had to ask his supervisor for permission. You also can't transfer the device to a new home without Flume's consent. Other than the overly clingy policies, the device works as advertised and notified me whenever someone forgot to turn off a faucet. ... show more

  • Amazing option
I have a slab leak. While rerouting the pipes I'm looking for a water usage monitor and remote shut-off valve. I have doubts about a battery-driven monitor without plumbing. But it ends up being my best option. First, if I can't monitor the main meter, I have to buy 3 monitors, one for the house and 2 for irrigation. I can change that but it requires a lot of work - digging. My meter is underground on the public sidewalk. It looks dark and small in there and I didn't think the Flume will fit inside. But if somebody can plumb something in there, there must be plenty of space for the Flume. The other thing is meter compatibility. I have a Neptune without clear markings so it may be the one that is not compatible. But I think as long as you don't have a too new one, it should be compatible. The installation is easy. You just need to tie the Flume on the side of the meter with a thick rubber band. I had two potential problems. When the app tries to connect with my wifi, an error shows up telling me to retry. It doesn't surprise me as my wifi 6 has the same SSID for both 2.5 and 5 GHz. I might have tapped retry and they the app jumps to calibration without confirming that my wifi is connected. I tried to confirm before putting my Flume down the rabbit hole. There's no way to go back on the app. There's no wifi indicator. I tried to add a new device but it wasn't allowed because all the devices have a serial number. So I just put the Flume next to the meter and it worked. The 2nd potential problem is that the app tells me that the Flume moved more than once. It hasn't. I could have calibrated the app with the readings on the meter. But I'm impressed enough. I think the Flume is detecting the rotation of the red dial, which is exactly what the meter does to measure water flow. If a metal or a magnet rotates, it will disrupt the electromagnetic field around it. So without calibrating, I believe the Flume will be accurate, maybe occasionally missed a turn. First, it's reassuring that my slab leak isn't deteriorating into a measurable amount on the meter. When the app says zero, the red dial doesn't move and I don't have to pay for the leak. I reseeded the lawn and I was using a lot of water since to let the grass grow. But the Flume tells me I'm using over 300 gal of water a day when the sprinklers are on. I checked and all leaks are very minor. I have the incentive to change the watering program. And recently I removed the flow limiter on my showers. The app tells me that it's about a quarter for a long shower. The usage report is on every hour. So you can know how much water you use for the washing machine, dishwasher, and maybe flushing if you plan enough. Now for the remote shut-off, instead of an expensive valve, I found a mechanical "hand" to turn off the quarter valve for about $40. I tried and it should work. But it doesn't fit my very old valve because it is very bulky - the valve body is much thicker than the pipe. Any newer valves will fit. ... show more

  • Great product, but seems to need a new battery every 11 months
Great product, and even better tech support. I needed their help in the install process, and they were very prompt and on-point with their replies/advice. The device quickly showed it's value--detected a leak in my yard's drip system which I would never have found otherwise! I've had this device to two years now, and I've had to replace the battery twice. It's a $20/year cost to factor into the device's cost. ... show more

  • Check carefully for space and compatibility
Has great reviews. I did not get to try it out since it goes around the meter and not the pipe. Make sure you have the space for that and compatibility of your meter (my bad, I did not)

  • Confusion!! Anxiety, Ultimately Relief, BEST TOOL
Bought this cause I like tech that helps around the home. I bought this a few days ago. The setup was not too hard except maybe the step when it required a picture of the meter, I cleaned it and probably took several photos before it accepted it (it will let you skip but don't give up). I then checked out the App and turned on the Rainbird irrigation to see the data and was already amazed at how my zone was pushing 11 to 12 GPM. This was about 4 pm. At 6 pm the App alerted me that I leaked!! It was a very small leak like .1 gpm reported I thought surely that will be a toilet flapper. Well, I went around and shut off the water to the toilets and it didn't change. I thought maybe this new contraption is wrong. I went outside and sure enough, the paddle wheel was ever so slowly moving. I then turned off the Rainbird valve but didn't fix it. I turned off the RO filter system, The sinks in the bathroom, Still, I had a leak. It was getting late I thought for sure I had some kind of slab leak with little evidence of a leak. Anxiety and panic began to creep in, I contacted a leak detection service that evening via the website. The next morning while the leak persisted I thought about everything I had turned off and realized I had not turned off the hot water line. The leak detection guys called and said it would be 350 dollars first 2 hours to find the leak. I frowned, paused, then said let me check a few more things before I may return the call and schedule. I watched videos about nightmare slab leaks etc and I wasn't very keen on the folks that built my home (another story). I got home and shut down everything again including the hot water heater and the backflow (though a highly doubted issue since the main shutoff). I also made sure the spigot in the back and side were not leaking and shut off. To my horror, the app reported a leak and the little wheel in the meter confirmed it!!! I looked up at the sky and then down at my home and just to the left of my vision a caught a glint near the mid-front of the house between the shrubs and the porch. I looked again and I saw more glints, I approached the home and discovered it was a drip of water dripping down the hose that was wrapped up and though the spigot was shut off it was leaking!!!! , Eureka!!!! I managed to fix the Spigot, and just like that relief all over,, I was considering that ignorance is bliss and wished I had not bought it earlier but it does just what it is supposed to manage, warn of a problem it then is your job to stay persistent and fix it before it becomes a huge problem. ... show more
