    • Sturdy with essential safety features needed when installing around stairs.
I’ve used a couple of different baby gates at the top and bottom of stairs, not just to keep my toddler out of trouble but also to keep my two Great Danes out of trouble. This is by far my favorite because once installed it does not have a bar that you have to step over when the door to the gate is open. My other gates have bars at the bottom that create a trip hazard when used at the top or bottom of the stairs. Not so with this one! I also like that I can keep the gate door open when I want to since it does not spring shut again, and it has a very wide opening (the gate opening will be as wide as the spot you install it). It took a little more time and care to install it because it has to screw into the wall or bannister on both sides, but it comes with a handy screw hole guide and detailed easy to understand instructions. I had to make one adjustment to the bracket locations after the first installation attempt, but I got the whole thing done in less than an hour. ... show more

Perfect gate for the area I needed it. Very easy to install -- comes with wood screws, so if you're not going to be installing the hinges into any wood, save yourself some time in the long run by buying and using the proper securing hardware. In my case, I should have used drywall anchors instead of the wood screws that are provided the first time and I would not have had to repair and reinstall hinges twice again!! This is an edit to my first review -- approx. 2 months of use after purchase and I still could not be happier with this gate!! I have 2 dogs and used this gate in a smaller than average sized door opening to "their" room. I installed the hinges to the wall and the gate latches to the inside of the door frame. The gate is at a slight angle when closed but when opened it can swing back and lay flat against the wall. This is nice for when I'm hauling in groceries, cleaning, and/or just want it out of the way. So far, other than my own laziness, I've had no issues with the hardware on this gate. Now that the hinges all have drywall anchors, this is a very secure and sturdy installation and the gate itself is completely sturdy. In my opinion, this gate is great -- granted I don't have little ones yanking and jumping on it, nor do my dogs pay any mind to it at all. So I believe it's going to last. ... show more

I own nine baby gates in my big house. NINE. This one is hands down my absolute favorite by a HUGE margin. It's quiet and opens and closes with a whisper and with a movement smooth as butter. It was easy to install. It's a beautiful, solid color black that has resisted chipping or nicking. It adjusts easily. It has held up the weight of an obnoxious toddler who enjoys clinging to it and swinging on it while it's open. It has resisted several toddler and babies' attempts to break it open with vigorous shaking, pulling, tugging, rattling and climbing. I would not recommend any brand more than this one.     • One of the only gates I have found that can work in uneven doorways
I have a 95 pound black lab that likes to chase our cats. Because of this, I keep the living room a "cat haven" and keep our dog out using a series of gates that separate the living room from the rest of the house. The opening off the kitchen has unequal walls, and I looked for a long time to find a gate that would work in uneven doorways. Most pressure gates, and even most mounted gates, require that the walls be of equal length and the openings directly in line with one another. This is one of the very few gates that I have found that fit in an uneven doorway or entryway. Most pressure mounted gates require that the two walls are directly even with one another. This one allows enough freedom that the two walls can be even several inches apart, and the gate can still be used successfully. The gate was reasonably easy to install: my 16 year old son had the gate up and working in about 30 minutes. The gate is easy to open and close, and lays flat against the wall when not in use. So far, the gate has withstood several lunges by our cat-chasing 95 lb lab, and is still standing. ... show more

    • Beautiful, sturdy gate
Excellent , sturdy gate. I've had a similar (although much larger) Kidco gate on my deck for the past 8 years and other than having to replace mounting brackets earlier this year haven't had any issues with it. It's as strong and reliable today as it was when I first installed it. So when I decided to replace a plastic pet gate inside my house recently, I chose this gate because I knew it would look good and work. Installation was easy - if anyone encounters problems it's most likely because either the floor isn't level or the two sides where you install the hardware aren't square. That happened with me - I assumed the doorway was square and screwed in all of the brackets and the gate wouldn't fit. Had to move the hardware on one side and then it fit perfectly. I'm actually planning to replace my other two plastic pet gates with these gates. And I also want to mention that Kidco customer service is excellent - even though they no longer make the exact gate I have on my deck, when I contacted them about replacement hardware they were so helpful and still stock old parts! Great dog gate. We’ve gone through multiple “baby gates” to keep our dogs in the kitchen while we are gone and they have chewed or knocked them down we finally found one that works and it looks nice. The only issue we had was the template to install one side was off which we didn’t realize until after we had drilled holes, not a huge deal mildly annoying. Overall great gate. ... show more

I like how lightweight these are, but I would like to see how time treats them. I like how easy they were to assemble and mount and absolutely love not having a floor pressure bar to step over (those aren't forgiving on toes).
