This kicking horse three sisters coffee is so smooth and bursting with clean COFFEE flavor. No bitterness no burnt taste of smell. Not what expected.

First time trying this brand. Like the concept of 3 roasted varieties in one bag. I tend to mix medium/dark roasts myself. Smells divine but that taste was unusual for me, sweet, really bright but not acidic tasting. It was a new coffee flavor profile for me. Wanted to love it but didn't. Gave it to family member who LOVES it. Little pricey but think the quality is worth it, supporting small businesses is a plus.

This isn't a medium roast.

I wanted to give it 5 stars. I really did. However, 5 stars means that it stands out from the rest, is as advertised, and tastes really good. Not a single word of that previous sentence applies to this coffee. This isn't a medium roast. You might could get away with calling it a medium-dark roast, but it's not medium. When you get into the dark roast area, the coffee bean starts to get an oily surface and will start producing a bitter and burnt after note. The darker it is the more both is prevalent. In some cases, that's not a bad quality in and of itself. But, only if it's advertised as med-dark/dark roast and you're expecting it. The advertised on bag coffee notes of stone berries and cocoa? Only half of that is true. I taste stone and dark cocoa. Again, it goes back to the roast. The darker a roast is, the less of the notes you taste. On the whole, the coffee was just good. It didn't stand out and didn't blow me away. For the price that Kicking Horse Coffee charges for their coffee, in general, I expected more. Instead, I got the coffee taste you'd expect from the cheapest store brand coffee. The mediocre taste of the coffee produced dropped it a star and being a darker roast than advertised dropped it down another star.

My Favorite Impulse Coffee Buy Yet

I actually ordered this as an afterthought, since is was one of the products which was recommended after I added Valhalla Java Ground Coffee by Death Wish Coffee Company, USDA Certified Organic & Fair Trade (12 Ounce Bag) to my cart. I've been on a bit of a dark roast kick and wanted something to switch it up. Now - what I don't think Amazon is great at is telling you this isn't actually a medium roast. This is a blend of dark, medium, and light roasts. It was a surprise, but not an unpleasant one. It smelled amazing as soon as the bag opened. The beans are clearly roasted differently, which is off-putting if you are expecting medium and end up with a medley. Grinding - well, I have a little Kitchen-Aid electric grinder and, while they don't look as oily as some other beans I've ground, they are super oily and getting the grounds out and then cleaning the grinder would be extremely bothersome if I didn't absolutely love the flavor. It's bitter and doesn't have a whole lot of the sophisticated flavors I hear true snobs prattle on about. It does have a slight burnt taste, but with way less of a punch you in the face effect than Starbucks house blend has. I don't think this would be my preferred coffee if I had to drink it black, but it blends really, really well with a touch of vanilla or sweet cream flavored creamer.
