This coffee is not a true medium roast, it is a blend of at least 3 roast levels as seen in the different color of the beans. It tastes fine, I'm no conosouer, but if you're a purist and want a uniform medium roast, this ain't your bag (pun intended).

We all have different preferences for coffee. I don't like beans with overly floral notes. Starbucks burns my stomach. In the morning, I also want my coffee relatively quickly, so convenience is important to me. I use a decent ceramic burr grinder and a more expensive Keurig (with refillable pod). The keurig allows you to select different levels of temperature and brew strength. I know it's definitely *not* the be-all end-all in coffee preparation. I've tried aero press and highly rated drip systems. For whatever reason, the keurig has outlasted the others. This setup works for me. I've sampled beans from 15 or so brands, both on amazon and in local stores, including local roasters. I've also sampled from within the Kicking Horse lineup. I keep coming back to Three Sisters. I can consistently brew a great cup of coffee that is rich and smooth. It has become my goto coffee in the morning. I just wish it wasn't as expensive as it is! ... show more

I wanted to give it 5 stars. I really did. However, 5 stars means that it stands out from the rest, is as advertised, and tastes really good. Not a single word of that previous sentence applies to this coffee. This isn't a medium roast. You might could get away with calling it a medium-dark roast, but it's not medium. When you get into the dark roast area, the coffee bean starts to get an oily surface and will start producing a bitter and burnt after note. The darker it is the more both is prevalent. In some cases, that's not a bad quality in and of itself. But, only if it's advertised as med-dark/dark roast and you're expecting it. The advertised on bag coffee notes of stone berries and cocoa? Only half of that is true. I taste stone and dark cocoa. Again, it goes back to the roast. The darker a roast is, the less of the notes you taste. On the whole, the coffee was just good. It didn't stand out and didn't blow me away. For the price that Kicking Horse Coffee charges for their coffee, in general, I expected more. Instead, I got the coffee taste you'd expect from the cheapest store brand coffee. The mediocre taste of the coffee produced dropped it a star and being a darker roast than advertised dropped it down another star. ... show more
