First, it works, it's not too loud, and seems fine, but I think I received a refurbished unit. The control panel is severely discolored as if exposed to the sun or a smoker's home. If not for that, I would rate it 5 stars. The top bar was also already attached which is unusual. Otherwise, it looks new, even the inside, and it works great. I'm keeping it because it works and I need it, but I'm a bit worried about how long it will last of it is indeed refurbished. ... show more

This unit does the job it was designed to do. The 12000 BTU unit was the right size for my apartment, and the Keystone A/C has been able to keep me cool reliably, for the second summer in a row. The air coming out of the unit is very cold. There are three fan settings, and I normally use the lowest setting. There are two or three issues that you should know before buying. The control panel and the remote control are as pictured. However, they're not exactly intuitive. The remote is nice because it shows you the thermostat's temperature in real time, but to do so, you have to press the "follow me" button, every time you turn the unit on. If you use the remote, but then make an adjustment on the unit itself, the remote won't sync up until you press the power button on the remote again. There are a lot of buttons on this remote, and you'll only probably need to use the two or three that matter to you. As other people have mentioned, the control panel on the unit looks like it came from a 1980s calculator. It does not match the color of the rest of the unit. It works fine though. The unit is a little bit louder than the information indicates. Using my phone I get a 60 dB rating when next to the unit, with the fan on low. Just a few feet away though it does drop to the 50-55 dB range. Last thing, and this is the more constant annoyance. The air conditioner seems to run off its own algorithm for temperature and humidity control. Some days, it keeps the temp within about a two or three degree range, and it will turn on about every 10 minutes to check the temperature. Other days, it allows about a 7° swing. You could have the unit set for 71 but it will turn itself off at 75. Unpredictably later in the day or night it will run until the temp hits 68. It takes some constant manual adjusting, or turning off/on, to keep the temperature where you want it. I'm assuming that it's taking into account the humidity level, and that's why it is so unpredictable about how it responds to the room temperature. There really isn't a good explanation. Worst case scenario, expect a 7° swing from whatever temp you set it at. You can also expect that it'll kick on about every 10 minutes, no matter what, and that can get frustrating due to how loud it is. Overall, it's a good value, and has been a reliable unit. There's no indication that anything is going wrong, so it will probably be good for this whole second summer and hopefully longer. ... show more
