Mechanically, this is a pretty basic window air conditioner. There are a few upgraded features, like digital temperature control, a remote with the follow me function increasingly common, and stuff like that, but by no means is this a fancy unit with the inverter function, variable compressor speed, or anything like that. This is basically the $200 barebones air conditioner with a remote control and a dehumidifier function, which is not actually useful. In my opinion, it would be nicer to have the cheaper models and automate them with smart plugs, which should have more features for less. That being said, it's vanishingly rare to even see an 8000 BTU model without these features now, presumably because Midea is making most of them and it makes more sense to keep the remote features. So it's hard to find a hypothetical $200 barebones 8000 BTU model anymore. They're all kinda fancy like this. The dehumidifier function isn't useful because to dehumidify, the air conditioner is running. At the same power level as before. In this case, around 500 watts. And it's just making all that water condense on the condenser and not giving you any of the cool air. If you're going to dehumidify, just use the air conditioner function. Otherwise you're heating your home for half the functionality. Just cool and get the full functionality. It's exactly as effective at dehumidifying on AC mode and dehumidify mode. So now that I have that out of the way, it's a good model. I got this and the 6000 BTU model and I like how they look, both basic and kind of nice, with the contrasting blue fan. I ran this one as the sole air conditioner in my house when it was 88 degrees as a high (with a box fan to circulate the air), and it kept my house at 75 degrees fahrenheit. Yeah, just this one 8000 BTU guy and a box fan. I think that room calculations they do with these sometimes aren't accurate. I think you could pretty fairly cool 800 square feet with just this unit, but it would run virtually all the time, and there might be hot corners. My house is 1250. It was not loud, not really, but I've certainly heard quieter, mostly from the fancy new inverter units. This sounds just like a traditional window air conditioner. Bryururuuurmmmmmmmmm. It's quieter than my old ones, but I'm not sure if that's because it's actually quieter or if it's just because it's newer. I did get the 6000 BTU model as well and this one seems sliiightly louder. The remote is...honestly difficult to understand and there's a whole manual just for the remote. I'm sure I haven't figured out most of the functions yet, including the follow me function, which from what I understand means you carry the remote around with you and if you go somewhere hot it uses a temperature sensor on the remote or something to turn the AC on? I'm not sure. It's a pretty complex system. Make sure to read the manual. Speaking of the manual, I read the instructions for mounting and it basically says all the smaller units are the same. Well, I have two of them, and it's right. But, the sizes are not the same, and if you look at the size on this listing, it's roughly correct dimensions for this model, so you can use that as your guide. But, it doesn't quite fit in my window how I would like it. I have the accordion bits where they told me to put them but the way my window is set up, there's no good way to really seal the window. I need to use foam and a bit of wood to build a platform for it, but for testing purposes I just used the foam which is sufficient. The bottom of these air conditioners doesn't like how my windows are set up. The filter is easier than most - you just slide it out. You don't have to take off any panel or anything. You just yoink it and clean it off. So, in my opinion, this is a slightly too expensive option, but it does everything well and punches above its weight for its BTU. ... show more

I bought this to use in my moms house. They have a great central air unit but they have one room in the house that just won't get cool. It was easy to install. It fit easily and securely into the window. It makes as much noise as you'd expect from a window unit. Not anything so loud that it's annoying or anything. It's been working so great and keeping my mom nice and cool. It brings me so much relief knowing she's not sitting in there overheating, especially at her age. I have been using this Keystone 8,000 BTU window air conditioner for few days now. I found it just in time the weather is changing to warmer weather . I am glad I did because I couldn't be more happier with it . It cools my room quickly and keeps the temperature comfortable even on very hot days. The unit works great for my bedroom, and I like that it is powerful enough for medium-sized spaces without being overly noisy. One of my favorite features is the remote control, which makes adjusting the settings easy from anywhere in the room. The built-in dehumidifier also helps reduce humidity, making the air feel fresher and more comfortable.
