Incredibly stylish and easy to use - and if you have any issues the support is amazing. This was the perfect choice for our family - very easy to operate and very high quality / durable lock set. It looks amazing and work great - kids love how easy it is and we love how secure it is. I had a small issue / problem installing and let me tell you the support was amazing. Simply calling the 1-800 number and I had technicians on FaceTime walking me through it and ensuring I was 100% happy. They have even followed up a couple times to ensure all is well. We bought this smart lock for our front door when we moved into a house. We had a locksmith install it when he changed the other locks. We love the lock - it’s very easy to use and the app is straight forward. One day the lock wasn’t working and we took out the batteries and one was corroded. Once we changed the battery, it was back and functioning. However when we put the battery cover back on we accidentally cracked it. I reached out to customer service to see if they could send a replacement. They always respond within 24 hours and they sent us a new one in just a few days. The media could not be loaded. I am a cranky, critical reviewer and in all my years I have not found a perfect product yet. That said, the Hornbill smart lock comes about as close as anyone can reasonably expect, especially when you factor in the exceptional customer service this company provides. I say that because this is a hi-tech product and not everyone is technically savvy. There is a fair bit of setup required to get full value from this lock, but detailed printed instructions are included along with online videos. If you need more help, never fear, Nancy is here from Hornbill customer support to save the day. When you buy this lock, don’t be surprised when Nancy reaches out immediately to ensure you receive all the help you need for a successful installation. I was impressed. If you want more specifics, read on. Everything comes in a cushioned box well protected from damage and scratches. There are written installation instructions and drilling templates should you need to drill out a new door. The parts are adjustable to fit the two common lockset patterns so it should work in any pre-drilled door. I was replacing a standard doorknob lockset, so I only needed the template to drill the bottom hole for the outside handle. Everything fit perfectly, but the outside keypad just barely covered the existing deadbolt hole. A little touchup paint around the hole to cover up where the old deadbolt had been, and everything was fine. Still, it would have saved some work had the keypad been about a quarter inch wider. Once all the mechanical parts are installed it is time for the techie part of the installation. Note that setup requires your smartphone to communicate with the smart lock using Bluetooth, so your phone needs to be near the lock. Hornbill provides a color illustrated booklet that covers step-by-step instructions. There are also online videos to walk you through it. The manual shows setup using the “Next Lock” app, but the lock is compatible with “ttlock”, so you can use that app if you have a preference. Some of the videos use ttlock instead of Next Lock, so don’t let that confuse you. Both apps are virtually identical. I followed the manual and set up the lock with Next Lock and everything went perfectly. There are so many ways to use this smart lock. Each family member is issued their own code, and you can issue temporary codes as well. We typically use the included IC cards instead of punching in a code. These are very short-range RFID fobs that you just touch to the keypad to unlock the door. Each card is coded differently and paired to the lock. Two cards come with the lock, but you can purchase more at nominal cost. And, obviously, you can still use a physical key if necessary. But I’ve test cycled the lock many, many times in the past few weeks, and it has been 100% reliable and the batteries still show 100%. I doubt the key will ever be needed. If you want “remote” control of the lock (outside Bluetooth range) you can get an external G2 gateway that connects the Bluetooth smart lock to your home WiFi. Any G2 gateway compatible with ttlock should work, but I use the Hornbill G2 gateway to avoid any potential support issues. Did I mention Hornbill support is fantastic? Anyway, the gateway is small and sits on the entryway table and gives me status, notifications, and control of the lock from anywhere my phone has Internet access. It is also compatible with Google assistant and Amazon Alexa, so that lets me use the lock with home automation routines. When I arrive home in the car, I say, “Hey Google, unlock the front door”. At night I say, “Alexa, Go to Bed”. Alexa turns off the TV, turns off the lights, sets the thermostat to 64 degrees, and locks the front door. Notice in the photo I put a piece of silver tape on the deadbolt knob. That is because at night, I could not tell if the black-on-black knob was in the locked position when I walked past the entryway on my way to bed.
