This stuff fits all of my criteria. I have very thick loose curly/wavy hair that's on the longer side of short and is too heavy to hold any style for very long. I tested it and it might be too early to say, but this stuff kept my hair's style all day long. There is a bit of of frizz and strands out of place, but over all it did better than I ever could have imagined keeping my hair nice even while running errands on a hot day. I'm also super finicky about smell and finish. This stuff is matte and smells legitimatley amazing and not chemically smelling at all. It's sort of subtly sweet with a kick of spice at the end. I'm so happy to find a product that noticabley works!

If you don’t want your hair to look like Ross from friends, this gel is for you! My husbands go to gel for years, no joke, years. Holds, pleasant smell, not greasy at all! Small amount goes a long way! I’ve tried it on my hair for some frizz and it works great!

Really like this! My hair is in a very short pixie and very fine. My hair is in great condition since I get it cut a lot This is the first thing that has held my hair in a messy pixie all day. I was out in the wind yesterday about 7 hours and it stayed messy, just the way I left it. It doesn't look or feel wet or stiff. It's light weight. I had to learn how to use it and actually returned it once, found directions on line and gave it another try. Take a very small amount, rub it between your hands until it is smooth and the grainy feel is gone. Apply to hair rubbing it back and forth on the top of your head. Style as you like. It's great one you get the hang of it. I hope you like it too. I also love his Plumping Wash, Plumping Rinse his Full Again thickening lotion". I use it after towel drying my hair - dry and then apply Rough Rider style and smile.

The product itself is solid however i wish it had more grit to it since it is a clay. The hold is not the best however the style you go for looks great once you set it in. The ingredients are sweet and it smells pretty decent.

This styling clay is great as the hold lasts all day as well as keeping a matte dry look which is what I usually like to do with my current hairstyle. I do enjoy the scent, but my girlfriend not so much! The washability is great in that it doesn’t wash out and allows you to touch up and restyle for a couple of days with less product each day. After 2-3 days I’ll do a full wash and clean it all out. I’ll usually will use this product after I use a sea salt spray and blow dry it to about 80-90%. Then I’ll add rough rider and finish the rest of the way

My go to hair stuff. It smells really great, kind of like a subtle sweet, clay, sandalwood type smell. Basically the opposite of 'manly' body spray, in your face type lab smells. Really natural, holds great in my fine hair and I love the thick and clay-like consistency. Origin Story: Funny, the first time I ever used this was in about 7 years ago in a Crunch gym in San Francisco. I was the last person in the locker room before closing time, and I saw that someone had left a brand new, large size of this product. As I left, I grabbed it to drop it off at the front desk, and in the doorway of the locker room I passed a giant muscle man. I said 'hey' but he just mean mugged me and said nothing, which I laughed at. As I went to pull the container out of my pocket to give to the front desk, I realized that big boy was probably going back to get what he left. I slid it back into my pocket and have loved this stuff ever since. Thanks tough guy!

This stuff is so incredibly thick it’s difficult to use. I feel like I’m going to pull my hair out running it through my hair. Smells decent though. Update: it's also greasy difficult to wash out and just gives my hair a bad look. Only hair product I've ever thrown away before running out.

While the hold and smell are great, the formula can be a total pain to work with. It is a very heavy, waxy clay, and if you use even a tiny bit too much, your hair goes from styled to looking greasy almost instantly. I also noticed that the diatomaceous earth they use for the matte finish can make my hair feel weirdly frizzy and full of static if I apply it to dry hair. The only way I can get it to look right is by applying it to damp hair, which helps it spread and settles the frizz. The upside is that it is a really high-end product with natural ingredients and a scent that is actually subtle and masculine instead of smelling like a chemistry lab. When you nail the application, the texture is exactly what you want for a messy, strong-hold look. It feels premium in your hands and the packaging is cool, but for the price, I expected it to be a bit more user-friendly. My biggest gripe is the washout. It is incredibly stubborn and usually takes two rounds of shampoo to get it all out of my hair. If you don't mind the extra effort in the shower and you're willing to experiment with applying it while your hair is still wet, it's a solid clay.
