First, I had no instructions in the box. The only sheet of paper was the one that tells me not to return it to the store. Other than that, I had zero instructions. Thank goodness a quick Google search resulted in the full instructions. Good idea to assemble on carpet but if you got shedding pets, their hair will static cling to this thing like there's no tomorrow. I had one of those duster with the anti static charge that was able to wipe off most of the hair. The bottom of the box is corrugated plastic. There isn't much clearance at the bottom but I can see sagging in the future if you store anything heavy. Assembly was easy with the instructions except for one major issue. I made a big mistake with the hinges. I thought the corner pieces were just end caps so I push them into the lid first. Instructions showed you're suppose to place the lid on top of the box then push in the corner pieces. However, instructions failed to show that you're suppose to line up the holes on the lid and box before you place those corner pieces on. So I just assume corner end caps was to cover up the holes. I attach the corner end caps to the lid itself making it unable to attach to the box. I had to destroy part of the hinge to get the corner end caps out. The end caps click into place and my attempt to unclick then pull out the end caps was not successful. I had to tear the part of the hinge where it clicked and remove the end caps. Once the end caps was removed, I realign the holes, place the end caps back on. Thank goodness it still worked as a hinge and the lid open and close just fine. The middle pneumatic part helps supports the lid too. When you first open the package, the parts feels flimsy. However, once you connect them together and add in the metal braces it actually feels pretty solid. It says two people can sit on it. I'm male, 260lbs and was able to sit on it. However, I found it too high for my liking and it wasn't comfortable. Overall, it's an ok product. It works for its intended purpose. I wouldn't store anything heavy. and make sure you pay attention to the corner end caps when it's time to attach lid to box. ... show more

  • Bought for Wood Pellets - Adding Plywood Foundation
The box is huge, looks neat and I'm hoping it fits my purpose. I bought this as a storage spot on my large porch - for bags of wood pellets. Having some trouble with assembly, I returned to the comment section and read the cautions about the flimsiness of the bottom panel, the unlikelihood that it is strong enough to hold them. Since my stove has a 120# hopper it's going to go through many bags this Winter and that's a lot of weight for a piece of corrugated plastic that is bendable. I've decided to make a wood platform to fit just inside the plastic bottom frame. I have 1X3s from which to build the wood frame, and 1/2" plywood sheets (2 of them I bought when I bought my heavy metal mesh garden cart and carried it home in the SUV. Laid out between the back of the car and the porch floor, they made a perfect ramp on which to pull the cart out of the car myself, and they had no other prescribed use). I'll screw and glue the boards together to make the rectangular frame. Prior to attaching the plywood to the top of the boards I'll use one 1X3 to align the two plywood pieces side-by-side, glueing and screwing it down to the top of the plywood. Then I'll flip the plywood panel over onto the rectangular frame and glue and screw or nail the panel all around, to the frame. Once dry, this will sit under the box, providing a sturdy bottom support for the wood pellets. OK, now I decided to measure once again before starting to cut. My plywood isn't thick enough to fill up the gap from the bottom of the plastic bottom panel to the floor of the porch - it measures 3/4" so I will buy a piece of that thickness of plywood and forget the frame. I'll seal the plywood, maybe paint it to match the porch decking, and see how it goes this Winter. At the end of the burning season I may decide to repurpose this box to poolside or for some garage or garden/greenhouse use. As plastic outdoor pieces go, this one looks sleek and a tad bit rustic, so it suits the porch and I'm glad I bought it. Next year I'll report on how it worked out. ... show more

  • There was some wrestling involved.
For those who believe a 5th grade education is all you need to get by, you will be disappointed in the instruction sheet that comes with this deck box. The box it was delivered in was sturdy and well packed, with no damaged parts. Putting it together was a little frustrating. Click this and click that like it's all going to pop together. Not without putting my 205lbs of weight into it ... but I digress. It went together in about a half hour with just a screwdriver and my bodyweight and some wresting to keep the bottom panel in place while I screwed in the dozen or so screws designed to keep it from coming apart like many marriages today. I wouldn't recommend using a power drill to put the screws in because you are just screwing into plastic which will strip out if you're thinking more about the beer you will drink after this deck box is assembled. Just take your time with a good old fashioned screwdriver and put them in that way, snug as a bug. I like the box and it almost fits all the outdoor furniture cushions that I wanted to store in it - and they are in there with a small amount of encouragement and a spring clip where the lock would go to keep it shut until its nice enough outside to actually need those cushions. ... show more
