  • The KESSIL A360X TUNA BLUE LED LIGHT is the latest offering from Kessil.
  • The A360X is LOWER PROFILE, BUT BRIGHTER than the A360WE or A360NE. It features a low profile design with higher light output, thanks to the redesigned, first-class sunflower heat sink. 25% brighter than the A360WE or A360NE. 30" X 30" coverage area. The A360X has MORE COLOR CONTROL. The 360X has more color control, opening unlimited color combinations for aesthetics while maintaining the performance of the core spectrum. You will need a Kessil Spectral Controller X to access all the colors.
  • The A360X features LOW DIMMING. There is smoother color transitioning and dimming, including moonlight effect. It's also SMARTER. The new K-Link communication method is an upgrade of the plug & play 0-10V, allowing users to network multiple A360Xs together and set individual groups to run their own programs. Can control up to 32 lights.
  • The Kessil A360X Tuna Blue LED Aquarium Light works seamlessly with the Kessil Spectral Controller X (not included) to control the intensity and color mix of the light throughout the day and night. With the Controller X you will be able to control the red, green & violet/indigo LEDs. If you are not using the Controller, the A360X still has the two knobs, just like the A360W. One knob is used to control overall intensity and the other knob the blue/white LED spectrum mix.
  • 90 Watts: 25% brighter than older versions of the 360. Effective light much greater than a 250 watt metal halide. Note: 90 watts is the maximum output. The output will be less if you turn down the blue or white LEDs.

  • 2 year impressions
I’m calling this an exit interview. After 2 years with these lights over my tank I’m switching to Radions. The tank: 72lx18wx13d shallow reef. I was one of the first to switch from metal halides and T5’s to DIY LED to AI to Radions and I finally landed on these A360x’s in an aquatic life T5 fixture. I watched the videos, did the research, and BRS sold me on the combo. I realized I wasn’t going to get Radion-level PAR but the lack of disco effect and nicer form factor sold me. I did think I would be good with an SPS colony here or there. The setup does not lend itself well to an open top setup. The 2 power cords are unfortunate but that’s not a Kessil problem. It was a giant ugly dust-gathering “thing” hanging above a beautiful rimless shallow reef. The T5’s largely overpowered the Kessils and gave a flat look to the tank when they were on. It was disappointing and honestly the PAR readings were just ok. Not close to what BRS got and my tank is shallow. It was about $3,000 in lighting for decent LPS PAR levels which hurt my head but I moved forward. Yesterday I just spent $3,100 on Radions that I know will have too much light at 100%. Unfortunately the lights never really did a lot. They’re beautiful and they certainly look bright enough but at the end of the day the growth just wasn’t there. Despite perfect parameters (by perfect I mean stable) nothing really has taken off. I’m not one to fiddle with settings or photo periods and so I stayed the course. I was using BRS settings, height, and ATI T5 bulbs. I thought back to the previous tank I had (which came down when we moved) with the Radion G4 30 over it and realized I had probably 2 times the growth in 6 months that I have had with this tank in 2 years. That was with me fiddling with controls, no PAR meter, no existing data, and no preset program. Just moving little slides up and down until I was happy whenever I felt like it. I digress… About 3 months ago I lost a ballast in the Aquatic Life T5 fixture. I was secretly happy I finally got to take that ugly thing down and just use the Kessil’s with arms. The end look was so much better. The water actually shimmered. I used BRS recommended settings and away I went. No growth but it was pretty. They’re beautiful lights. The minimal design with the knobs looks so much better than the shiny black “UFO with tail fins” ecotech sells. Kessils produce an awesome affect on the water too. The programming is actually easy and while the app load time is a little slow the controls and layout makes things a snap; especially if you have used the spectral or spectral x controller. It is now apparent that these Kessils are for aesthetics only. If you watch the BRSTV videos and read between the lines they make it clear that you need a lot of these lights or heavy T5 supplementation; to the point where the T5’s are carrying the load. Over my tank I would need 8 to obtain adequate spread and PAR for long term success! I’m not sure how I would mount that over an 18” (or so) wide open tank. Even the video for the new a500x has subtle hints that it just isn’t going to give you long term positive results without major supplementation. There is another video review where they are using 2 on a tank with a 24x24 footprint! Nearly 400w of LED required for a cube that small is insane! BRS DOES do a good job selling them but the idea that I need a 4 bulb T5 fixture to go along with them is ludicrous when I could just use a 6-8 bulb T5 fixture and save myself literally thousands for the same output. I’m going to change bulbs so why not go all T5? $1,800 buys a lot of bulbs! “But muh shimmer!” Bad news: It largely disappears with the T5’s. BRS and most of us have realized that single source narrow light doesn’t work. We have to saturate the entire tank with intense light. The Kessil is designed to do the exact opposite of what science, experience, and logic tell us and yet it’s still hyped and marketed as being awesome. So…2 months ago…the first Kessil died. It was 25 months old. It would simply go out randomly. I followed the cleaning schedule. It didn’t appear dirty. But it would inexplicably cut out. Kessil had me jump through one hoop and then offered a refurbished one. I was happy and impressed with their customer service. Before I could get the new light installed the next one started flickering. The blue channel was dying. The blues would flicker and hiss and eventually stopped working. Back through 2 hoops this time and Kessil replaced the 2nd one (it was technically 23 months and 26 days old). Flash forward another week and another Kessil starts dropping. This one is also about 25 months old. Kessil makes me jump through 4 hoops this time and “humms and haws” before agreeing to replace it. 3 lights all died right at the end of warranty which is odd. Granted they did replace them but if I had been gone for 2 weeks, I would have come home to a dead tank or paid thousands on the fly to have the local tank service company replace them on an emergency basis. I have to say the customer service was good for me. Local reefers told me Kessil told them “sorry not sorry” as early as 6 months ago. I’m guessing the new Radions and reports of their customer service are forcing them to step up. The problem is that there product is flawed and we are all too busy with the fact that it is pretty and “innovative” and completely disregarding the fact the “function” is a key component in design. I would guess they pushed too hard on the form factor. I wouldn’t have had any issue if the A500x form factor only had 90w and I think you would end up with a more reliable light. I have worked with heat dissipation in computer chips for years. I transferred that knowledge to making something similar to a Kessil albeit without the controller about 8 years ago -a large PC processor heat sink with fan with a 100w LED array and optics about 1.5” x 1.5” square. It would get hot despite a 120mm fan and a 4x6 cube of machined aluminum fins with copper tubes running through. The cooling system for the Kessil, if sufficient, is BARELY sufficient. It must be cleaned monthly (I recommend buying a cheap air compressor online). I had to run this light at 100% to eek out meaningful PAR. After scouring forums I don’t think anyone runs it less than that on tanks over 20g except for ramp up and ramp down. I would guess when Kessil tested it they never assumed it would need to run 100% all the time and that explains the high failure rate you hear about. I do believe this light is beautiful and would probably be great over a 12x12 cube or something very small. You could run it at 75% and probably do well with LPS and certainly softies at 60%. If it wasn’t for the reliability issues I would move one of the A360x’s over my 10g to replace my a160- which seems like it could use an extra 10-20% boost. (The a160 is ~3 years old and going strong). I’m going back to Radions. The RMS and lights with their cheap shiny plastic reminiscent of a kids toy bum me out. The end game is happy living organisms and so I’m excited to get things finally growing. In summary, this is a nano tank light. It isn’t meant for SPS corals and really isn’t meant for scale. The narrow point of light does make for a cool effect but is counterproductive for our goals as reefers trying to cover areas larger than 12x12. It is also eliminated with heavy (necessary) T5 supplementation. It is easy to get swept up in words like “shimmer” and “innovative” but different is not always good and sometimes we forget that. The fact that you need to run it at 100% to get any PAR from it over even medium-sized tanks obviously shortens it’s life span considerably. ... show more

  • Plenty of high quality light for my 5 mos old 34g Red Sea Reefer
Plenty of high quality light for my 5 mos old 34g Red Sea Reefer. This is my first Kessil light replacing a cheaper LED fixture I've had for 5 mos and I can objectively say it took the visual experience of my tank to a whole new level. Everything looks amazing and all my livestock appears happier. Color of the corals never looked better! The light definitely has a premium feel right out of the box. Turn knobs feel super smooth and the cooling fan is extremely quiet. You wont hear it's working unless you place your hand to feel the warm air coming out of the vents. The low profile design looks sleek and will compliment any aquarium style. The LED cluster is neatly organized sitting under a high quality lens that emits beautiful full spectrum color at any level. The light also showcases the water clarity that all aquarist works so hard for. Cons: With all the Pros the A360X has, the Cons really is just related to cost. Too soon to tell but I have high hopes on the return on investment from the A360X considering the high price tag. Additionally, buying the light is just the beginning. In order for you to really enjoy this light, you'll have to buy the accessories individually such as either the Spectral Controller X or wifi dongle and the mounting arm which are also pretty expensive. Overall, I'm happy about my purchase. If you're new to the hobby, learn from my mistake. Save yourself some $ in the long run and invest on a high end lighting like the A360X right off the bat because you will eventually upgrade anyway as you become more experienced in reefing. ... show more

  • They look awesome
The spot directly under the light hits 600+ par. It is a 3 inch circle. Really nice light coverage after that. I like the color of the lights for both planted and reef tanks. They grew plants great for me for 4 months and now they are on a SPS dominate reef. It has only been a week but I see no problem with them. The price is pretty competitive with the top of the line and as much as I like the form function of this light. They dont put down the par as my other lights and they have a hot spot that the others do not have but they do require less electricity to do it. For me they are cost effective because power is so expensive where I live. There is a good chance that I will use 3 of these rather than two of the competitors brand. I have the money and they just look good sitting above the tank. Value for the money is based on what you value. ... show more

I bought it for my biocube 32 reef tank and its great I use it with the 35 degree reflector (also available on amazon) and the light shimmers just like the ocean without any controller. I bought the wifi doggle but it hasn't arrived yet. I tried numerous lights. Started a with a led light by Bosley at $90. It was ok better then the ones you cant fine tune by increw at $200 witch I also tried that are to intense at lowest setting with only 6 brightness settings don't mess around buy the kessil and save time. ... show more

  • Works Great.
I am new to kessil and if this light is what's to come then I am definitely a fan! I was going to buy the Ai Prime light which is cheaper but settled on this one. My only wish is that it had a programmable version. I bought the controller for this for an extra $100 and it worked. It had all kinds of modes and I only wish it came with this light. My corals love it butI am running it with a t5 hybrid. My acros love it and my montiporas are growing fast. I would recommend this to anyone. ... show more
