  • Almost Great...
Style: USB-C Dual 4k
After trying 3 other docks with usb-C / tb3 and this is the first that hasn't caused issues with my picky odyssey neo monitors. I'm running. My laptop is tb4 capable so bandwidth shouldn't be a problem, but nonetheless others that claim dual 4k were not capable. It isn't a perfect device though. I'm running the monitors and a USB 3.0 switch to it and it runs VERY hot. I was hoping to stash it away in the channel in the back of my desk, but I wouldn't want it touching wood 24/7. So it's on top of the aluminum laptop which isn't ideal, but in the channel it created an oven and had to be aborted. Even up on top, letting the cables pull down on it it a little so that the front is lifted a few mm, it's hot. Hot enough I wouldn't want to hold it. Going to try to let it float between the desk and wall and see if that helps. I'd buy it again, but wish Kensington would have made the device a bit larger in favor of allowing for better cooling. It works and that is what matters. If it dies early I'll remember to update this. ... show more

  • Perfect
Style: USB-C Dual 4k
I got new 4k monitors and I needed something that supported dual 4K @ 60Hz. This does the trick and charges my laptop at the same time! Just make sure your laptop supports power delivery and needs 60W or less.

  • Solid product.
Style: USB-A Dual 2K
Build quality seems good. Really like that it has a separate power adapter, rather than hard wired. Right out of the box I started experimenting. Plugged up my monitor using HDMI and plugged in my wireless dongle for my keyboard and mouse. I have been using Chromebooks for a while now. The main page said NOTHING about Chromebook compatibility. Plugged up to my Acer R13 and within seconds docking station began working including the attached screen. While you can click on preferences to make changes, I shut the Chromebook's lid and started working away at my new workstation. I can't say it will work with all Chromebooks but it worked with the two I own just fine. Windows 10 laptops installed the drivers after plugging the USB cord. In order to get the thing to work once you close the lid of your laptop there is a switch under power setting that must be changed. I set our to never turn the screen off while plugged in when closing the lid. Works fine. Occasionally the audio flakes out and you have to reselect it as your audio output device. (this is a windows issue) On to my negative part of this review. Mac OS. I know the Displaylink website claims the driver works for newer versions with some system tweaks, but in our tests we had NO LUCK getting this to work with any OS past High Sierra. Once you upgrade the video just stops working. We reached out to Displaylink support, read through every forum we could, and still ended up rolling the Macbook back to High Sierra. This next little bit is more on Mac OS in general. ALWAYS DO A SYSTEM BACKUP TO A SEPARATE STORAGE DRIVE BEFORE UPGRADING. This will save you a lot of headaches because once you go from the Itunes store to whatever they are calling it now, getting to where you can download older versions of the OS will really try your patience. "And that's all I have to say about that." Your mileage might vary. I can neither confirm nor comment on how well this dock work with any other devices, like the MS Surface, as I don't currently own one. I may come back later after trying it out with some ODD stuff, like a linux laptop or some SBC's running various OS's and add to this review. Sorry this has gotten so long. ... show more

  • Looks like a solid product
Style: USB-A Dual 2K
I am using this with a MacBook Air (most recent model, up-to-date OS X). The first thing that hits you is that Kensington has not done a thing to make it easy for a Mac user to set this up. You have to go to their web site, go to the product page, click on "Resources" and download/install the DisplayLink USB 3.0 software. I have two displays that use DVI connectors. There is one DVI port and one HDMI port, so I purchased a DVI female to HDMI male adapter so that I could connect both monitors. I bought a Monster adapter (available on Amazon). Upon closer inspection, I see that the unit comes with a DVI male to HDMI female adapter that you can plug into the monitor and use a male/male HDMI cable. I'm going to switch to that because it takes less room on the Kensington unit. It would be good if Kensington had a model with two DVI connectors. Once I plugged in the monitors and the power adapter, I plugged in the supplied USB cable to the unit and my Mac and it worked. That made me feel pretty good. The next challenge was to arrange the monitors and menu bar correctly. This is done via the "Displays" link in System Preferences. This review isn't the place to describe how that works, but suffice it to say that this requires previous experience with multiple monitors or some web searches. I previously was using a device for multiple monitors that used the Thunderbolt/mini-DVI connector on the Mac and treated the two monitors as one big monitor. The downside of this is that if you wanted to expand something to full screen, it would expand it across both monitors. The Kensington unit treats the monitors as separate displays, so when I use PowerPoint it works as expected and when I expand a YouTube video, it fills only one screen. I tried iPhoto, however, and it didn't work. The DisplayLink web site indicates that the way iPhoto renders the picture doesn't work with their software and chips. There is no lag or jumping like I've seen with other USB-based video. YouTube videos look great. I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on that. So far it seems pretty darn solid. I like the multiple USB ports, especially the front-facing ports. It's a keeper, but not perfect. I suspect most Mac users will be stumped on how to set it up and will have to contact tech support. Hopefully they will get help there. I would give this 5 stars if Mac setup was simple and if it worked with all standard Mac apps. ... show more
