  • Very happy with this set
Style: 8 Piece
I like forstner bits for drilling holes better than using the hole saws with mandrels because they are more versatile. I can make a partial depth (any depth) hollowed out hole or a hole that goes completely thru my material. These drill bits seem very sharp and well constructed. The are covered with a thin layer of oil to keep them from rusting (they are made of steel). The case is sturdy, keeps them together and they snap in firmly so they won't be juggled around. There are several common sizes and the case slots are marked with both standard and metric sizes. I tested with the 7/8" drill bit mounted onto my Milwaukee hammer drill (my drill press is currently out of commission) and drilled a hole thru a 2x4. The bit drilled thru the wood easily and without an initial drift. You do have to be careful to hold the bit perfectly perpendicular to the surface to be cut. The round shank stayed firmly mounted in my drill without any detectible slipping. I look forward to using these in my drill press once I get it working again. Very glad I ordered these. ... show more

  • Wow this is really a good set with a wide selection of sizes
Style: 8 Piece
First the sizes are 1/4" to 1 3/8" and they are about 3.6" inches long with about 3" being usable to drill with. The sets smallest size is the first I used and it does smoke the wood a little bit if you bear down too hard but, I was using a drill press and that's pretty easy to do. These move a lot of wood real quick and they are plenty sharp but, you have to back out and empty the flutes frequently, that is pretty normal for all these type bits. I am very pleased with this set and it will get lots of use they cut clean and I like using Forstner bits they start easy and drill a smooth hole worthy of my 5 star rating. The carrying case is a bonus for me and it will help me keep up with a decent selection for the future, my only hiccup is there is nothing on the outside of the case to indicate what this is other than the brand but a paint pen will fix that for me. Over all impression is great wood working set on a budget you can't miss with these. ... show more

  • Accurate size holes, Reasonable bits
Style: 8 Piece
This set has a lot of useful sizes and produces reasonable hole and drilled at a reasonable speed. The bottom of the holes were not as nice or smooth when i compared them to a few of the expensive forstner bits I owned. If you look at the third picture you can see the bits made torn up chips. The other bits I compared them too made perfect little shavings. For the money this set makes a great starter set or fills in a lot of sizes for less money. But if you are looking for very high quality for use on very hard wood you will have to spend a little more money. ... show more

  • Good basic set
Style: 8 Piece
BITS: This is not a top tier carbide tipped Forstner bit set, so it may not stay sharp as long , but the price reflects that. It is a basic steel alloy set that will do what you want in most woods. They have 3/8” round shanks instead of 1/4” hex, but I think the larger round diameter makes up for the smaller hex in terms of gripping power of the drill chuck teeth. I used the 1” bit in my drill press to drill a test hole in a softwood 2x4 board and it did a great job: fairly clean entry (I could have started slower), clean walls, and flat bottom (see photos). The bits have sharp cutters, are well formed, and were cleanly turned when made. CASE: The case is a big plus for me. I have a couple other Forstner bits that did not come with a protective container, and that makes for a hassle trying to protect their edges when stored. The case with this set takes care of that. It’s well made, easy to open and close, and each bit snaps into its own bed and stays put. ... show more

  • Well Made Set of Forstner Bits
Style: 8 Piece
This set of Forstner bits comes is a rigid plastic case, and comes with sizes ranging from 1/4 inch up to 1 3/8 inches. The bits are oiled to prevent rusting as they are made of carbon steel, with each bit labeled with its size. Of the 8 bits in the set, only one had any burrs or imperfections in the sharpened cutting edges. Upon testing, the 1/2 inch bit gave a smooth cut using a battery powered drill and left a clean hole with a 1 inch depth and a flat bottom in the wood piece. After drilling a few more holes, each of the them was clean with flat bottoms and the bit is still sharp. The durability of the steel and heat treatment used for these bits is not able to be determined with just a few holes, but they are holding up so far. This set is recommended if you need an assortment of differently sized Forstner bits that are well built and make clean holes with flat bottoms. ... show more

  • Kendo must be losing money on this set
Style: 8 Piece
I've begun trying to build out a good collection of forstner bits for my woodworking and when I saw that Kendo had a set I had to grab them because of the experience I've had with their other sets. Just like with the other stuff they put out, I'm pretty sure these are beginner level, and since that's where I'm at as well, these are perfect for me. That said, the accuracy on these is amazing as is the honing. I'm blown away that they charge so little for this set and include a protective case. I can only guess that perhaps they don't hold an edge for very long or something because the cost doesn't equate to my perceived value, which is really high. At the very least, if these break, I'll have a nice case to put replacements into. ... show more

  • Good price, probably OK for hobby or casual use
Style: 8 Piece
Good price, a set of eight bits for about the same price as a single medium quality bit at your local DIY. They come in a relatively sturdy plastic case for safe, convenient storage. I'd rate the overall quality at slightly less than medium. I compared the 1 3/8 Kendo bit with a medium quality store brand bit from my local DIY. I've been using that bit for concealed cabinet hinges. From the photos, you can see that the head of the Kendo bit on the left is shorter than the DIY bit on the right and has fewer teeth in the rim. I drilled holes with both bits in 3/4 inch birch plywood. The quality of the holes seems to be equivalent. However, the Kendo bit required noticeably more force to drill the same sized hole and the bit was noticeably warmer (not hot) after a single hole. I would definitely take the DIY brand bit over the Kendo bit for daily use but the Kendo bits are probably fine for occasional use. ... show more
