It's built from smooth, unfinished tulip poplar with rounded corners, supports up to 500 pounds, and is made in our Athens, Georgia shop. Available in Twin, Full and Queen. Futon mattress not included. A simple couch that becomes a bed in seconds. The Studio Bifold has 4 positions, clean lines and sturdy wheels on the back so it's easy to pull out from the wall. It's made from solid, unfinished tulip poplar in Athens, Georgia and supports up to 500 pounds. Available in Full and Queen. Futon mattress not included. I bought to replace a completely inadequate "sleeper sofa" in a travel trailer slide out. My problem was that the inside "length/width" side to side of the slideout was 73.5 inches. Everything including this is 74 inches or 74 1/2 inches. I looked and looked and looked and with metal, there is "no give" on the width. I finally took a hard look at this and figured since it was wood, I could cut it down...just enough to fit. So, did it work? Yes but... This is very well engineered and designed and that all assume you are NOT going to cut it down to size like I did. But you have to be careful. The best way, in retrospect is to cut BOTH edges and not just one off including losing one of the dowels on each side. That worried me for structural integrity, but it is a bit over engineered where all of the other pieces once together compensate. And in the end, it all went together and is structurally sound... I had purchased metal support pieces and extra screws assuming I would need them when I did NOT. I did have to do a couple of my own "pilot" holes to ensure a good bite with the screws, but in the end, it works great and is the ONLY thing that will fit. I now have a full size futon that extends out perfectly so when in "sofa" mode it allows the slide to move in without hitting anything. Then when you get to the campground, put it in bed mode with a good six inch mattress and a true real life adult can actually sleep on it...comfortably... I am very pleased and by having to adapt it with a bit of engineering/construction background, I was able to see how well designed and constructed it was for people who do NOT have to adapt it including cutting off edges and structural dowel fasteners. Great product AND, drum roll please, American made... And for what you get, pretty inexpensive compared to anything else on Amazon even before the tariffs. Including a high quality six inch futon mattress my total price was 398 bucks. I am impressed. The only weakness would be individual units where a piece might be cut where the grain creates a structural "break point" and a screw could break it or stress. But I see at least one other buyer who had this happen and the company responded on a weekend and immediately sent out a replacement part. So, I'm thinking they are aware of it and have excellent customer service to address it. This is due to their choice of wood and its intrinsic quick growth grain orientation, however tulip poplar is a great choice of wood for this overall, relatively inexpensive, light, good construction characteristics overall for this type of product. This is a well engineered and fabricated piece of softwood furniture. The instructions were clear. The wood was well selected and precisely cut. I had two minor issues. I assume the pieces were cnc cut, with the seat back up for seating position, the top horizontally pre-drilled screw hole is about 3/16 of inch off center. Enough so the screw went off the side of the slat and didn't hold to the frame, so I had to put the screw in a none predrilled spot. Also the seat bottom is too low to the ground at 10-1/2" , needs to be about 16" high, for my 6'3" height.. This might be a industry wide seating height for a futon? Anyway, nice inexpensive piece of furniture Oh, they use removeable clips and pins to mount the slat frames to the legs , and support frame, so it would be easy to take it down to move it. ... show more

We would have given this futon frame a 10+ but the instructions were hard to follow. My Husband is a Contractor and I build designs for people so for the two of us to be stumped for 30 minutes isn't usual. Other than that - THIS FRAME IS AWESOME! We just have it set up. Time will tell on durability. This frame held a Queen futon mattress that is 8 inches thick - and it looks FABULOUS! Oh - and it came 5 days faster than expected. Made in the USA ... as far as I know. Exactly as described. Easy to assemble. Mind you my son-in-law put it together for me, but didn't seem to have any issues even with me rambling on and distracting him. A powered screwdriver was in use. No creakiness. The wooden boards run length-wise similar to a standard bench, which makes it more comfortable for sleeping, since they run the length of the body. It's super sturdy. My only complaint is the space between boards in the seat and back area is 3.5 inches and 4.5 inches in the middle (between the seat and back). In a perfect world the boards would be wider or there would be less space between them. The construction itself works perfectly well for general use as extra seating or an extra guest sleeping solution. For everyday use, some extra support such as cardboard or coroplast sheets may be needed to fill those gaps. I would also recommend a non-slip futon grip pad or yoga mat for the seating area to keep your mattress in place so it isn't slipping out. Fortunately, any futon mattress will work with this frame. And I do mean any, from a Japanese style floor mattress, to a cheap 6 in. futon mattress, to an expensive innerspring mattress, to whatever your heart desires. It is relatively easy to lift the back support beam into 1 of 4 seating positions from one side of the frame. It will fit into pre-formed grooves allowing your desired angle of comfort. If you have a heavier (thicker) futon mattress, you may need to remove the mattress to lift the back into the desired setting, physically move the frame back to where you would like it to be situated, and then place and adjust the mattress as necessary. I am a heavy person, weighing in at about 300 lbs with some back problems (spondylosis, osteoarthritis, etc.), living in a small apartment with limited space, and have found this to be a very viable solution to seating and sleeping arrangements. I actually prefer this over my standard full sized bed with a 12 inch foam mattress for sleeping. I have much less stiffness and more mobility after casually falling asleep on the futon watching a movie to sleeping on the bed that's supposed to support and align my spine. The futon mattress may need to be replaced from time to time, but this is a well crafted and sturdy frame that I expect to hold up for many years to come! Overall, I would recommend this frame over any other that is out there or I have tried in the past. And did I mention, made in the USA, enough said. ... show more

This futon frame came in the most efficient possible packaging, with tremendously clear instructions. I didn't see this in the description, but it's made entirely domestically in Athens, GA; it's rare to be able to buy a reasonably priced product that didn't get shipped in from overseas - extra kudos for that. Frame is entirely wood (Tulip Poplar) and connected with wooden dowels and metal fittings - I like that it's all natural, and fairly sustainable materials. Instructions, as I said above, are quite clear - clearer than IKEA, in truth. I would recommend a screwgun and rubber mallet for assembly - some of the dowel connections were (appropriately) tight, and you're sinking about 30 screws. Using those tools, it took me about 50 minutes, on my own, to have it assembled and in place. When putting on the side and back braces, just look for the pre-drilled hole at the ends to make sure you've aligned them correctly - that's the only even possibly unclear part of the instructions. In terms of comfort - that's all going to be on the futon mattress. It is, in the end, a series of wooden slats, so if you have a thin mattress, you're going to feel the slats. Two extra nice things about this frame: 1 there are wheels on the part of the frame that faces the wall, so it can be lifted and rolled, dolly-like, away from the wall for easy opening. 2. there's no center rail - so, no single higher piece of wood poking you in the back when you lie down to sleep on this, unlike many other futons. Now - I just put this together, and sat on it briefly - I'll come back to this review if it falls apart or anything - but, right now, I have to offer up big cheers to KD Frames for this simple, practical, well made futon frame. ... show more

I wasn't hoping for too much from this futon frame at the cost that it was offered at. The wood is solid, and the frame seems like it is designed well, but the quality of the workmanship is a little suspect. Roughly half of the pilot holes for the screws are way off, most just barely catch wood. It seems to be on pieces that are also secured with a bolt and pin as well, so I'm not too worried, but I was expecting half the screws to miss the board it was meant to secure. There are several sets of symmetrical parts, left and right, which are identical in appearance and easy to confuse. Other parts of the frame are labeled, such as "seat" and "back". I had it assembled entirely before I noticed I had swapped two feet which ended up making the frame unusable. Even with the assembly instructions, it's not super clear which parts are left and which are right. Once it is all together, it seems pretty solid. A 8" Full sized futon mattress overhangs the frame about an inch on each side. The frame came in a very small but long package, and weighed about 45 lbs. All you need for assembly is a Phillips head screwdriver, but a drill will make the work much faster. All in all, it is a cheap futon that does the job, but there are definitely sturdier frames out there with similar design, and probably better manufacturing. ... show more

My futon frame was delivered as a large heavy box. All the pieces were unpacked, inventoried and separated. The only tool needed is a screwdriver. Its really simple to put together even though some of the wood parts were mislabeled. If you pay attention to where the wooden dowels are located in relation to the pictograph instructions, you'll be fine. You'll know if a part is mislabeled when you lay out the parts for assembly and the holes, or preinstalled dowels are in the wrong location. You may have to flip the part over, or around for the parts to mate together correctly. I used a small rubber mallet to tap everything together before locking it together with the strategically located seat and backrest screws. It functions as advertised. The futon mattress is full sized, 6in thick. Its going to need to be "trained" to accept the fold. Its not sitting all the way down. Its resisting being folded. I may lay on it for awhile to help it out. I suppose I should have taken photos before I placed the cushion on it, but its so heavy, and I had such a hard time getting it up on the frame ( it kept slipping to one side crooked), I decided to leave well enough alone and send the photos. I plan on getting some felt for the feet. Don't want any more scratches on my floor: ) ... show more
