This is my third KastKing spinning reel and second rod. I also use some of their accessories. (I've had many different brands of fishing gear for everything from ponds to offshore.) I am impressed by the features and incredible value offered by this fairly recent innovative company operating with an ultra-efficient business model to minimize pricing. This KastKing Zephyr combo was shipped packaged better than much pricier fishing gear I've received. The rod sections were wrapped in a plastic bag and secured inside a tube with foam cushions at both ends. The reel was in a plastic bag inside the box, and the box with inside another plastic bag. The tub and wrapped box were wrapped up and stabilized inside ANOTHER plastic bag and placed inside the shipping box. This rod is a 7' two-piece fast action with two different tips, a medium power and a medium heavy power. The rod is extremely light weight and relatively thin with good action, and the two tips provide both power options and a replacement should you accidentally break one. The stainless steel guides have zirconium oxide ring inserts, a nice feature at this price point. The 3000-size reel is compact with a nice ergonomic foam handle grip, and the rotation is crazy smooth - way better than I expected after owning tens of spinning reels costing many times more. The triple disc carbon drag is rated to 22 lbs., which is more than adequate for this rig and should be quite durable. It has a convenient useful anti-reverse switch, a feature I miss when it's lacking. KastKing provides a manual, parts diagram, and stickers. The fit and finish on this combo is excellent, something I've noticed with my other KastKing gear. I was very impressed with the quality of this rod and the reel combo. It arrived very well packaged. I looked both the rod and reel over thoroughly and only found one defect. There were two small imperfections or chips in the finish of the bottom section of the rod. These imperfections are extremely minor and I only mention them due to the fact that the rest of the rod was perfect. I didn't expect this nice of a finish on an inexpensive rod. The reel was also very nicely finished. I especially like the markings on the brake adjustment. They make it very easy to repeat settings when changing end tackle. I tested the rod and reel out salt water inshore bottom fishing yesterday. I put 15 pound braid on the reel with 5 feet of 30lb leader snelled to a #1 circle hook. One feature that I immediately noticed was the hook keeper was hook shaped instead of the common loop. This is wonderful as I often leave home with just a swivel or loop on the end of my leader. I was able to place the loop over the keeper instead of over a handle like I usually have to do. While fishing, the plastic reel holder held the reel tight and did not loosen like other inexpensive rods I have fished. The drag on the reel was very smooth tensioned uniformly in strength as adjusted. At one point, I snagged the bottom while drifting with a strong current. This rapidly bent the rod right over. I was able to tighten the drag until it held and actually snapped my circle hook leaving me with intact rod, reel, line, leader and half of a snelled hook. I never intended to test the rod to that capacity, but was impressed that it held up. The rod and reel felt nice and light in my hand and felt good. I do not have large hands, but was able to drop line and reset just using my thumb. I found the reel easy to adjust and cast both a live shrimp and live shrimp with a 2 ounce weight. I hung a five pound dumbbell on the line to test the rod and reel as well. Both rod tips handled the weight with out a problem, but the line does come in contact with the pole as it is beyond the intended limit. This also allowed me to play with drag settings. The drag adjustment was very smooth and increased consistently rather than just locking up like cheap reels will. I intend to keep this combo with both tips in my Jeep for the unexpected fishing trips. The light tip will be perfect for panfish in the ponds and the heavier tip will be great for pulling bass out of the weeds. I may even bring it on the occasional light salt water trip again. I think it will be perfect for casting under the mangroves for snapper. ... show more

I’ve run a good bit of KastKing gear over the years, and this Zephyr dual tip spinning combo is one of the most well rounded setups they’ve put out. It just flat out works. The reel is smooth, clean, and easy to fish. You don’t have to overthink it or force anything. It’ll launch a bait a long way with minimal effort, which matters when you’re trying to cover water and stay efficient. The rod is where this combo really earns its keep. It’s got the sensitivity you want for finesse fishing, you can feel what’s going on, but it doesn’t fold up on you when you hook into a decent fish. There’s enough backbone there to handle bass without any drama. The dual tip setup is one of those features you don’t fully appreciate until you need it. If you fish enough, you’ve broken a rod, it happens. Being able to swap tips and keep going instead of packing it up is a big deal. For the price, this thing punches way above its weight. It fishes like a setup that costs quite a bit more, and that’s been pretty consistent with what I’ve seen from KastKing. Bottom line, this is a solid, dependable combo that I wouldn’t hesitate to put in anyone’s hands, whether you’re dialing in finesse techniques or just looking for a reliable spinning setup. ... show more

Reel and Combo is an incredibly great value bundle. Great product to get started with if you are a beginner with a budget. KastKing is a great retailer for beginner rod combos. The drag is very smooth, and lightweight.

I'm really enjoying this Zephyr fishing rod combo. I was impressed how well it was packaged. They really make sure their products will not get damaged in any way. My husband and I go fishing regularly, this combo is great for trout, bass and basically any type of panfish. I have so much fun catching on this rod because it's easy to cast and it's very sensitive so I can feel when the fish bite. The reel is super smooth and the rod is lightweight but strong. It came with medium and medium heavy rod tips. I really like the split grip handle. This new updated style makes it easier for me to cast. I also like the bright green on black color scheme. I would definitely recommend this combo for anyone who really enjoys fishing, this will be my new go to for sure! ... show more

Reason you get two rod tips, got a minor bite and put minimum pressure on it and it snapped. Even with the second tip not worth the money because im worried about losing it too. For the money ill buy a penn or Shimano next. Little $11 dock demon bringing in monsters no problem

As with all Kastking products I have gotten, the quality of both rod and reel are excellent. The rod is very sensitive and tough. The reel is very smooth and durable. They balance well for easy casting. An excellent product for the price.
