Bought the KastKing Verus in size 4000. More compact than I expected but have found that KastKing reels tend to use smaller frames than some other brands. Really a nicely-machined reel, with few plastic parts. From the parts list and their composition I would expect this reel to perform well in a saltwater as well as freshwater environment. It is extremely smooth and loaded with ball bearings on the reel spool as well as other strategic joints. It differs from other reels in that the oversize handle can be used either left or right handed but it screws directly into the housing, rather than meeting a screw from the other side and tightening from both sides. This seems to add a bit more stiffening to the whole reel and smoother retrieves. It does lack an anti-reverse lever, which I use often and would have preferred, but otherwise give this reel high marks for the money. It is also packaged and cushioned very nicely in the box.

I love this reel for lake fishing here in the SW. it’s perfect for light rods while catching trout, perch, crappie and small mouth bass. It performed great and I get excellent casting distance. This is my second KastKing reel and I’m a fan of their quality and price. My only complaint is is comes with one spool and I wasn’t able to purchase a second one as they were out of stock.
