I am usually a mid tier type purchaser. Higher end pfluger, abu, fenwick, st. Croix type of buyer. I even have a few custom set ups. I wanted to buy some less expensive stuff and 2 piece for our Canadian fly in. All that being said, I think I'll be a kastking customer for years to come. Paired the sharky x with the perigee 2. I'm amazed with the whole setup and the value for what I paid for both. Super light weight, smooth as butter, seems to be very high quality and it all looks great too. As long as these hold up to some abuse, I'll slowly start buying more. So far, highly recommend. Bought an uglystik gx2 too just to compare them. Hands down happier with everything about kastking. This reel so far out of the box is in my top 3 favorite reels that I own.. if she does me well in Canada, it might turn into my favorite. ... show more

This reel feels real smooth, and well built. It was packaged very well, and delivery was fast. I haven't had a chance to use it on the water yet, but using it at home to test it, it works really well. The drag system is smooth, and the bail is easy to close. The 10 bearings make for a smooth reel and take up of the line. It is light, and as you can see in the picture, it is black in color, and very well made. I would recommend this reel. ... show more

This kastking sharky x is a nice smooth spinning reel. I used it yesterday for the first time on lake, and it casts well and operates smoothly. It is very nicely finished and is super smooth and quiet. Bail works nice and handle is comfortable. My complaints would be bail is a little stiff when closing, nothing terrible, and it is brand new. The other is the lack of a reverse switch. I have the 3000 model, and this may be specific to this size, but not being able to reverse can be a pain if you reel in lure up to the top of pole. Having to pull line out with the drag is a drag, so to speak. I have only used it for one day, but it seems to work well, but i cant give it more stars until its proved itself. ... show more

Casts great. Retrieves smooth. Only gripe…When I took the spool off, it is a great pain to get the drag to set properly. I had to unscrew and reset the spool multiple times before the drag would set. I would screw it down as far is it would go and the drag was non existent. I was finally able to get it on right for the drag to ‘catch’. Anyways, that should not have been that hard to get back on. ... show more

Im quite disappointed by the overall product quality and misleading information. Maybe this is just a quality control issue that I got unlucky with. The reel I bought was covered in a sticky glue-like residue that made the reel look dirty. Not only that but I bought the 4000 size expecting to fit an entire spool of 40lb, 150yd 4x jbraid and it didn't even fit. Despite me holding as much tension on the line while spooning to compact it as much as I could I still had several yards leftover. The description says I shouldn't been able to fit 210+yes of your aversion 40 lb braid mind you the 4x jbraid is a slightly thinner option than most other braid in its pound test so I thought I'd have room to spare, so that was misleading. The reel itself felt quite rough to reel as well as if it had sand or something abrasive inside. The reel itself looks a lot better in the pictures than it does in person and while I know it is supposed to be a budget friendly option it seems that to be pretty poor quality. I needed the reel to be able to join my buddies on a fishing trip as I didn't own a large enough reel so I decided to buy this last minute but kinda wish I hadn't made the purchase and maybe I should've stayed home instead. Pretty bummed out as I was expecting something pretty decent from all the positive reviews. I however experience quite the opposite of what everyone else seemed to have. ... show more

Big band for your bucks. Perfect balance,weight and cast ability.i bought two 4000 series and matched them up with 7”3heavy medium fast tip rods cast like a dream don’t miss out on these reels well built and the sharks x doesn’t have a anti reverse great for shore fishing I am impressed

Just received the new KastKing Sharky X3000. The packaging is really good for this type of product which keep it from being damaged in shipping. I also love that they have an assembly drawing of the parts, so that if you are prone to taking things apart, you have a guide to help get it back together correctly. The spinning action is very smooth and quiet when turning the handle with no line on it. the spool looks like it can easily hold over 100 yds of 10 -15 lb line. Our lake is frozen over for the winter so I will load line and try it out in early spring and make an update on impressions of actual use. ... show more
