If a reel could call my name early in the morning… this is the reel on my wall is that calls my name everyday! I put this reel on my Ugly Stick Carbon Inshores. It matches perfect! I have the baby blue ones and the red and black ones. (Seriously, it’s an addiction! ) This reel has Smooth action. Drag is easy and quite powerful. Super light weight. And dang… they are PRETTY! Not your boring Grandpa’s black reel! Better than almost everything else for a “daily driver”! We use these on our charter boat in Florida. They live on my boat out in the weather elements and THEY NEVER FAIL. We flounder fish with them, catch sharks, land large Red Fish or black drum. These reels want to perform for you! I have only used the Kastking Royale Legend Glory reel for a month or so. But so far, I am truly impressed with the smoothness while retrieving lures. Also the drag has performed perfectly on the 8 or so fish over 3 lbs, that I've caught. Time will tell on its durability, but there is no indication of it failing. And it looks great. The first one of these reels I received was either defective OR was damaged in transit (box crushed on on end)... The thing wouldn't spool evenly no matter what I tried... Made the return and got the replacement today... Well, that's more like it! No spooling problem this time... Spooled up with Kastking 6lb Black Mamba monofilament and it was all systems go... A couple of things that keep it from getting a 5 star rating... (1) There are no extra washers included if there is a spooling issue; and (2) I had to grease underneath the drag knob. There was no grease at all. This reel is rated for saltwater, and has sealed bearings but unlike a true saltwater reel, there was no grease under the drag knob. Minor detail but an important one for keeping water out of the drag washers. (3) The reel only has 7 plus 1 bearings; I prefer 10 plus 1. Another minor issue but it does affect smoothness. Some pluses: the reel casts extremely well and retrieve is fast (6.2.1) gear ratio. I like the rubber handle, it made for excellent grip vs EVA foam type handles. The drag is smooth with no hang ups. The finish is excellent, beautiful actually, and as a Georgia Bulldog fan, I love the red and Black finish... Kastking kept with their slogan on this reel - affordable innovation. A couple of twerks here and there, and the Royal Legend Glory would have gotten 5 stars.... ... show more

    • Nice reel but it irritates me

I purchased the 1000 for Minnesota lake fishing. This reel is super smooth casting with no line tangle. Easy, long casts and it looks great! Rubber handle is solid. What I didn't look for when choosing it, was a lever to flip the bail open with my index finger, then hold the line with the same finger, and then cast, all with one hand. Now I have to hold the line, flip the bail open with my other hand and then cast. I also found that I need to flip the bail closed with my hand, rather than turning the handle to close it. If you do use the handle to close the bail, you've got to turn it hard and that doesn't always work. I have fished with it three times now and having to change my technique is irritating to me, especially when you've been doing it the same way for years. So if that will irritate you as well, move on and look for one with a lever to open the bail. It's totally a matter of personal preference. Other than that, it is a great, lightweight reel....and it looks great! Happy fishing! ... show more
