I bought Kast King because it’s proven time & time again it’s good quality. I after many great experiences with Kast King had this reel be bad , when I talked to Kast King customer service I found that they are awesome they sent me a replacement reel & it’s doing great!

I'm a big fan of Kast King products, but this is my first reel from them. First impressions out of the box without using it: It's nice looking and the red color will offset it from my other reels. It feels relative smooth and the drag and braking system adjustments turn easily. The reel is on the smaller side, which means those who like to completely palm their reels, should be easily able to do so. I like the handles on the crank. They feel just soft enough to offer grip without being too sticky. The side cover can be removed if you move a tiny switch away from the Lock position and pull outward on that switch. The box it came in is sturdy and padded which would work well for traveling if you remove the reel from the rod. It came with a decent, albeit generic, instruction manual. It didn't really cover this models features and how to use them. It also did not mention how to remove the side cover for cleaning and oiling. A parts diagram was included in the box. Kast King included stickers for labeling the reel with the test weight of the spooled line which is helpful when you have as many reels as I do and can't remember what line is on the reel. So far, it seems like a decent start for a budget level reel. I don't have any expectations that this reel will be on par with my Daiwa Tatulas or other $100 - $200 reels in my arsenal. We will see how it performs once I get to start using it in about a month when fishing season really gets going here. I will update my review at that time. ... show more

I ordered this reel a few months ago and finally had the chance to get it out on the water. I have to hand it to KastKing—like other products I own from them, it’s affordable but performs on par with more expensive brands. The reel is lightweight but feels solid and well-constructed, not cheap. It performed great with minimal backlash. The reel is very well made and it’s a nice looking reel. The spool is a bit on the smaller side but it looks like you can get a good spool of 20lb flouro on there. Other than that, the reel is smooth when reeling in. The size of the handles feel perfect for me. For the price, it’s a decent baitcaster. Lastly, I like how the eye that the line goes through has a wider opening. Less friction on the line when casting means farther casts. ... show more

I was truly surprised by the quality of this reel. I spooled it up with 12b KastKing fluorocarbon line and took it to a local pond. The brakes were easy to adjust and it cast a country mile. It operates smoothly and feels solid. I did not catch anything today but I will update this when I do.

a bit of backstory... I have used various bait casting reels for ~15yrs+ so I'm not new to this.... but this to be... Hands down the absolute WORST reel I have ever used and I have used some cheap garbage before. Brake essentially does nothing, the tension knob is a joke, the inside of the spool cutouts (where you are supposed to tie the line to) are so sharp that it makes it impossible to utilize normal knots. I had to use an old school arbor knot to get a mediocre knot on there.... the drag is ATROCIOUS. it's funny that they even called it a drag. I went to set the hook on a 1lb bass today and it just slipped and I lost the fish... and that is pretty much how the entire day went. 8ish hours of fishing and not a single fish caught. if this reel wasn't in the return window it would legitimately be at the bottom of the lake. I swear I would have rather rolled up 3 $20s and burned them than to have bought this reel. I don't know what the F kastking is doing.... save your money and buy.... just about anything except this or really anything from kastking as of late. I have some of their older reels and they still work good... a little loud now but... I mean what do you expect from all plastic reels made in China. ... show more
