I am completely impressed with the KastKing Lethal Blaze combo! TLDR Version: I highly highly recommend. KastKing has really upped its game in the product quality, packaging, and presentation of its products. I was looking for a rod and reel combo with backbone, but with the sensitivity to detect event the slightest of nibbles, something that casts light, finesse presentations at a distance with ease and smoothness as the line comes off the reel, and something that travels well. This was all that and more—I mean the extra rod section is just icing on the cake! For the detailed review: I have to admit, I typically fish with a baitcasting combo. By typically, I mean 85% of the time I fish. My target species is bass. So why did I but this spinning combo? It is for situations where the baitcast combo falls short: Walleye fishing and super finesse and light presentations, so I can use the full range of lures I have in my tackle backpack. What I was looking for in a spinning combo was one that can fit the exact circumstances above. I was searching for a rod with either a medium or medium heavy action, a rod that loads well on the back cast, over a 7’ length so I can get the additional distance on the cast, something that is travel friendly for my Subaru Outback, something that can cast small jigs or an EWG hook with a light worm, and something that is sensitive (like me) but has a strong backbone to haul in large fish or a fish who decided to dart into weeds or lily pads. I decided to go for this rod and reel combo because it seemed to have had all of the above with backup butt section of the rod, just in case you brake your tip section (which hasn’t happened to me in years) or scratch it up as one hikes in and around dense brush, or you are rock hopping. I was pleasantly surprised that my needs were successfully fulfilled with this purchase. I spooled the rod with some KastKing Braided 12 lb line for backing and added 10 lb KastKing Fluoro line for the main line and went to one of my trusty spots to catch bass with a finesse presentation in late summer. The combo easily and smoothly casts my 2/0 hook and roboworm presentation, and it cast it much further (about 2x) compared to my baitcaster at its smoothest settings with practically no brakes. I had no worries about getting any tangles as I normally would on the baitcaster. The extra length on the butt section of the rod helped getting extra power on the cast too. I know braided line typically casts silky smooth, but I was amazed at how silky smooth the fluoro felt as it came off the reel. Impressive! While my hook up ratio was about 40% (due to my timing on setting the hook), I felt every single peck and bite at my lure. When I did catch 3 bass, the rod had no trouble bending and pulling fish out of the water. I felt pretty confident the rod could easily handle even the heaviest of bass and walleye. While I really didn’t get to put the drag to the test with a heavy fish, I feel confident it would perform well given how it managed every other aspect of fishing. (I want to update this review when I get more time to use the rod and reel). The only thing I was skeptical about was the plastic section where the reel attaches to the rod. It felt light, almost too light to think it would hold the reel securely on the rod. I realize that it is part of the design; the lightness makes it travel friendly without compromising the grip it has on the reel. It was a solid connection. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase. I can also see that KastKing has really upped their game in terms of the quality of their instruction manual, packaging, and presentation of their product. You can get an idea of the great craftsmanship from all the small parts that make up the reel, as seen in the contents of the packaging. KastKing also provides a sticker for your water bottle or computer with their logo, and a sticker to note the date and type of line you put on the reel. My package was definitely more secure than the Abu Garcia Reel I received from Walmart. The rod came in a poster like tube (which makes it easy to transport in my car) and the reel came in a beautiful orange box (my favorite color). Do I recommend? That’s an easy and confident yes. A great rod and reel for the money. The reel feels smooth and sturdy. It casts well and retrieves well too. The 5.2:1 retrieve is perfect for slowing down and fishing in the cooler months. The rod is two pieces but it doesn’t act like it. There’s plenty of engagement distance between the two parts, so it feels like a one-piece. Providing an extra top section is a great addition and makes sure you’re not out a rod if something happens. Love the color and the reel is super smooth. After one day of fishing the reel seat spins around the rod. Especially when you hook up on a fish. It’s kind of a bummer being that it happened the first time I fished it but pretty sure I can fix it with some super glue or epoxy.

I got the medium heavy combo to use for some of my larger spoons and swim baits and paired it with 30lb braid from beyond braid and it works amazing. Nice easy smooth casting, and once you play with the drag and the brakes and set them to what you’re using it’s basically hands free casting without backlashes. I use this all the time when I’m out on my kayak. And that extra top they throw in is awesome. I’ve caught many a fish with this setup, including pike that fought like hell. This rod and reel combo is a great deal for the price, I am impressed with the quality of both the rod and the reel and I would expect to pay more for a combo of this quality, the reel is smooth, lightweight, and casts really nicely, good cosmetics and the drag feels strong and smooth, the rod is light, sensitive, I can feel every nibble from a fish, the rod and reel together balance perfectly, there are also two tips that come with it in case you accidentally do something to one you still have a rod to fish with,I believe this is going to be my go to rod for quite a while, I will definitely be purchasing more from kastking in the future ... show more
