I wanted to get a bigger shore rod setup for myself now that my kids are big enough to start using the shorter rods we have now. This seemed to have a lot of higher-end features for a lower-end price so I thought I’d give it a try. Just came back from my first day of fishing of the season and decided to bring the Brutus rod and reel combo. I got the 7' with the 4000 reel. I am very happy with the action of the rod and the response to bites. I was able to land many fishes of different sizes but the larger ones were the ones that really tested the rod and the reel. The reel drag worked very well to tire these fishes off and to prevent the line from snapping. Rod also comes with a second tip which is a great bonus. Overall I would recommend this combo. This is my first exposure to KastKing, but won't be my last! My fishing is on our farm pond for bass (for me) & bluegill (for the grandkids), so my needs are pretty simple: Easy to use, light weight and durable. This combo checks all my boxes. The kit includes an extra rod tip for the two piece rod. The 6" rod is longer and more whippy than the others in my rack. Casts are longer, as you would expect. I'm very impressed with the sensitivity/feel. The first nibble of a bluegill on a bobber, worm, weight rig is clear. No doubt about when a bass hits a Texas rigged worm, either. The reel is also good. Line spools off smoothly and the crack catches cleanly. The only short coming is getting the drag set. It seems to be either fully off or fully on, with little in between. Not really an issue for me because I'm not trophy hunting and not really unusual for this style of reel either. At the coupon price, I consider this combo to be an excellent value. ... show more

Kastking has many sizes of combo rods. I got the size 2000 model which I would consider an ultralight spincasting combo. It will take 6-10lb test monofilament, perfect for crappie, small bass and other panfish that put up a fight. What I haven't seen on other rods, is it has a line keeper, that gives you a way to clip you line to the back of the rod, while you untie your bait, or remove your prize catch, or prevents unspooling of your line during storage. ... show more

My new casting rod and spinning reel came the other day. Fast shipping. Arrived safe inside it was shipping tube. It's a two-piece rod. They even throw in an extra top half. I've been known to snap a few tips off so this is an extra bonus. I'm an avid Bass fisherman. Go my go to rods are usually my St. Croix. This is now my new favorite light rod.
