Good reel, smooth and functions properly. The only complaint I have is the shaft seems a little short and will pop your knuckles when reeling in if your not careful. Otherwise it's a great reel.

I guess it should get a 5 considering it is a $30 reel. It is far better than the Penn Wrath which I have. I bought this to go with an 11ft surf rod and it is well balanced and light. A little on the small size for a 5000. It has taken a dunk in the water and when I took it apart there was no water in the inner gears. Just the bale area. I am impressed. Problem is it has a small spindle. What pulled it in the water was hooking up with a good size jack crevalle. The reel struggled. At the 5000 size I didn't think it should have. but again it is a $30 reel. It is smooth when pulling in whiting. Also one other problem was this reel was not easy to disassemble but maybe that is what kept the water out of the gears. Great kids reel. Note: the bale area that got wet was easy to disassemble and service. Maybe I shoukd have given it 5 stars.

So, I have never owned anything from KastKing and I thought I would start with an inexpensive item first because I had been told about KastKing reel quality. I chose the Brutus spinning reel, size 2000 for panfish, I loaded it with 2lb mono and headed out. I caught 14 fish that day ranging from small bluegill to 10in Crappie. The reel performed excellent!! Smooth cast, retrieve and drag. I have always been an Abu Garcie bait cast fan, and Quantum spinning reel fan, but I will certainly consider testing out some other KastKing reels in both categories when the time comes for new reels.

Overall I love Kast King products but I've had problems with a Brutus real and a Brutus rod. If you're going to do Kast King, you can't go wrong with valent eagle, Spartacus, sharkie, and zypher reels. Legends are also a great buy. I've got six or seven of them. I've got a variety of Kask King rods and they've all been very good except for the Brutus rods having handle rings needing to be glued back on. I would probably buy more of there stuff even at higher price if they would bring manufacturing to North America.
