Start up time is faster than what folks have been saying, but still fairly slow. Nowhere near the 30 to 40 second that folks have been saying. I get a lot of blurry shots and without the viewer, I can't really check them. But, if I hold still, the shots are really nice. Lots of detail and very clear. Just be sure to take a couple of shots of everything. It does come with a battery in case there is some confusion on that. But only one. You'll need to buy a micro SD card. Battery life is pretty bad, like other's have said. Very easy to use. I haven't bothered with the app or connectivity features. You can just connect to your computer as an external drive to get the pictures and then transfer from your computer to Quest to view. I was not able to use this as an external drive for Quest, at least in the SkyBox VR app. I could see the folders, but then SkyBox VR would crash. Works great. Photos and video are easy to take. With the recent coupons, this thing is a steal for what you get. Good value for the money. ... show more

    • Difficult to return.
This a pretty neat device. I have two now. Be sure that if you want to easily view that you order the one with the viewer. I ordered the one first without the viewer and intended to return the one that did not have the viewer. Now I am trying to return the first one unused and it appears that I can not return it. I just get support ideas in case it was not working. ... show more

    • A Slow, Blurry battery waster - probably best to not buy
When it works it's nice. Most of the time it doesn't work. For one, let's say you see something you want to photograph. You probably will have shut the camera off because it drains batteries so quickly. So you press the power button to snap that picture. Well it takes an extremely long time to power up. By the time it is finally ready that impromptu pic will probably have to be staged. Then, let's say you still want to take the picture, only one problem... If you have auto-focus on there's about a 75% chance that the picture you take will be too blurry to use. Yeah, if I had known this, I probably wouldn't have bought it. ... show more

    • An interesting entry-level 3D video/still camera
The KanDao QooCam Ego is a pretty cool camera for shooting 3D video, to be enjoyed on a VR headset, 3D TV, or even turning the footage into an anaglyph to watch with 3D glasses. You'll need to have some computer chops to edit and process the video. I find Kdenlive and FFmpeg to be great tools for that. It's certainly not a perfect camera. Battery life is not great, nor is camera start-up time. Start-up time is so slow that recording spontaneous footage is not really possible unless you keep it on standby, which chews through battery. I do recommend getting a spare battery and dual charger. Image quality is okay, though I get some aliasing effects / pixel blockiness, so while full HD on paper, seemingly not quite in practice, at least from what I've seen. You also NEED to calibrate it so that you can rectify the footage you shoot, as the cameras aren't perfectly positioned. Without that the 3D effect when viewing will be off or disorienting / mess with your eyes. When you then rectify your footage you do that in-camera, and that can be very tedious to do, as it takes a while for longer clips and you seemingly can't batch process them. You have to sit there, one-by-one and rectify them. An included software program to perform rectification would have been ideal in addition to doing it in-camera. The camera interface does take some getting used to, but once you do it makes sense. Some thought did go into its design, unlike some cheap action cameras out there. Auto focus doesn't seem to work great. Just shooting with fixed focus seems best, though that means you need to consider if you'll be needing to shoot close or far, as adjusting focus on the fly as needed, which can be cumbersome. Also you need to keep the camera stable. While it has a footage stabilize function, it doesn't seem great, plus in using it one must be losing even more resolution. Better to just try and keep the camera stable from the start. You can hold it stable or get a grip for it and weigh that down. Head-mounting it can also be neat. For the money, it's an interesting 3D video camera. At that price point and size you could probably take it places other more expensive 3D video cameras wouldn't go, like on rollercoasters. ... show more

    • Good luck getting to the battery
Two stars for various reason. Lets start with the battery access panel, it is the worse to try to open. I don't have long nails so I bent my nail back trying to open it. And I only figure it out due to watching a video on it. The view screen is VERY SMALL. I do not recommend using for photos. For video, it does its job. However, make sure you get the 3D view, because apparently you cannot buy it separate. I reached out to the company and they said, "return and buy the set." Well if you are selling the camera as a individual, one would assume the same for the viewer. but yea, not the best purchase I ever made but it serves its purpose minus the struggle to open and not being able to just plug and play to pull the photos/videos ... show more

Great consumer product. It helps knowing how to embed every every frame of edited video so can be viewed in stereoscopic 3D via the YoutubeVR app on Meta Quest. Its a specific command prompt.
