  • 2011 Tundra SR5
Style: Metal
I'm thrilled with my new K&N Intake setup. It's a gorgeous kit (I've posted a picture in the Customer Images section) that's dead simple to install if you're even the tiniest bit mechanically inclined and makes an immediate difference in the power, the sound, and the mileage of your truck. Whether or not it's worth it to see gains in those departments depends, I suppose, on your expectations...It's an intake kit after all, not a golden goose, so don't expect miracles. Based on my experience (and my expectations) though, I'm very happy. 1. Power: Nothing huge, but my already peppy truck definitely felt peppier of the line. I didn't notice any increase under hard acceleration, but throttle response seems more immediate. For what it's worth, K&N included a Dyno report that showed a marginal increase (3 hp, if I recall correctly) with their kit installed. 2. Sound: A new roar under the hood. It's not hugely loud, but you can definitely hear it and what you hear sounds real good. If that concerns you, you're probably not reading reviews on intake kits in the first place. Putting a Flowmaster Dual on my truck tomorrow for the full experience. 3. Mileage: Here's where I got surprised. I wasn't expecting an increase and was actually expecting a mild decrease (based on my experience with throwing a big intake kit on my motorcycle). Prior to the install, I was averaging 16.4 mpg. After the install and driving my 80 mile round trip to work and back twice, I averaged 18.2 mpg with a 20/80 mix of city and highway driving. Nice! And that was with me goosing the gas pedal more than I normally would just so I could hear the whoosh. Anyway, very happy and I'll update here if my mileage changes over the next month or so. So...great kit, easy to install (even with the horrible instruction sheet....just follow the exploded diagram and you'll be fine), and it's not some kind of snake oil that fails to deliver. If you're thinking about buying one, quit thinking and do it. You'll thank yourself later. ... show more

  • Definitely a no brainer (Updated)
Style: Roto-Molded
I’ve had mine on my tundra 5.7 for about 7-8 months now, and I love it! Like everyone else says, it does make a nice low grumble on the throttle. Noticeable increase in power, but not insane. I’m not very good at gauging my mpg and neither is the truck itself, but I think I’ve gained 1-2 mpg or at least it didn’t get worse. I’m not super knowledgeable in mechanical installations but I was able to do it myself in about 2-3 hours and if you know what you’re doing it’ll probably take you 1. However, the instructions for mine weren’t exactly step by step for my truck, so do what I did and supplement with their video on YouTube. But don’t rely on that either cause that might be a little wonky too. Also, after install, my truck would start but stall out in a few seconds. If that happens, don’t panic. Your air flow sensor is most likely backwards. Since I flipped it around, not one problem since. Definitely worth it! Update: I’ve had this thing for a year now, and I still love it! However, something for everyone to note that I’ve recently discovered. My Tundra’s been shifting hard, slamming gears and acting like she’s not too sure which gear to be in at different speeds. I discovered this is due to the mass air flow sensor getting dirty quickly from the cleaning oil K&N has you use on the filter. The simple fix (and maintenance) is to take out the MAF from time to time and spray special cleaner in it that’s specifically for MAF sensors. After doing this, shifting smoothed out and MPG went up some too. Still love this system, and it’s totally worth it if you do basic maintenance like this. ... show more

  • Good for sound only
Style: Roto-Molded
Whatever K&N says about HP and MPG improvements with this system I have not seen proof of and highly doubt however the sound is great and if that is what you are going for get this. Any MPG improvements go out the window since you will probably wind up pushing the gas pedal with a little more force to hear the roar. If you are the kind of person that likes to show off the stuff under the hood this probably is not the best choice for you as the fit and finish is a little clunky. But for the price what could you expect. Installation is dirt simple and fast. Get this if the sound is the only thing you are after. ... show more

  • Do Not Buy This Product for a Toyota Tundra
Style: Metal
Do not Buy this Product for a Toyota Tundra. First, the Tundra ECU adjusts to different air flow so that after about 2 hours of cumulative driving time, the truck's power and MPG are back to stock. Second, the heat shield does not fit in the engine compartment so that there are many openings through which hot air from the engine compartment can flow into the filter area. Since flow is proportional cross sectional area and pressure differential, I would estimate that more than half of the air flow to the filter is from the engine compartment. Third, there is no "scoop" to stick out into the wheel well to re-direct cold air into the filter compartment, unlike the STOCK part from Toyota. Fourth, two parts were missing from my box and it took a week to get them shipped. Fifth, the chrome finish on the metal tube splashed into the three threaded holes, so I had to use a tap to clean up the threads before I could finish assembly. Sixth, the directions are crap. Seventh, the customer service person I spoke with spent all this time telling me about how Tundra's drive but then admitted he had never driven a Tundra. And no idea as to what the dyno curve looks like below 3,000 RPM (and before the ECU adjusts!) even though people drive below 3,000 RPM 95% of the time. It is all marketing and a poor product which will not give you more power or MPG. Don't waste your money. ... show more
