  • it is for a small, 6" swing lathe
I have an older Atlas Clausing 6"X10" lathe. It came with a rocker style tool holder. The rocker broke, and I needed to finish some parts, so I bought this as a stopgap. Now I think I will leave it on, because the bits are bigger than the standard tool holder

  • Non-Ferrous Material composition - buy a steel tool holder instead.
Initially this tool holder seemed like a great purchase at the price, but it was quickly discovered that it is simply not made for everyday use. the threads on the tool holders themselves ( for me the cutoff tool holder ) strip out fairly easily. Everything besides the screws on this piece seems to be a sintered or maybe die cast pot metal. I was machining pewter at initial testing so it was great. I moved to some steel and it was terrible. The tool post was literally flexing like a spring. Went ahead and bit the bullet on a steel tool holder. Great for plastics and non ferrous materials. Terrible for steels. Definitely get what you pay for with this one! :'D ... show more

  • Light duty but works.
I put this on my unimat. Great application for. That mini lathe. The step ups is the steel OXA quick change tool holder.

  • Excellent product. No shims required.
Took less than 60 seconds to install on my Vevor mini lathe. Like any tool, it works as long as you don't push it beyond its design limitations. The reviewers that claim shims are required between the tool post and the tool holders are mistaken. Tool height is adjusted by means of the brass screw on the tool holder. The cam pins within the tool post push against the tool holder, providing the required holding force. ... show more

  • What was I thinking?
So I ordered this after reading the reviews saying it not all that great. I should have known better. It is a quick change tool post but in name only. I figured it was not going to be as accurate as a more expensive tool post but boy was I wrong. ITS WORSE! After mounting and aligning it with the center I made a few cuts. First thing I noticed was that the tool holders were not snug to the dovetail. No matter how hard you tighten them its never going to not move and dance around and chatter. I don't do precision machining mostly free hand stuff. But this was too sloppy for even freehand stuff. When I say sloppy I don't mean it will move a few thousandths, I mean it will move almost a 1/4" at the tool tip. About all you can do with this is cut the dovetails off and build your own tool post. It got sent back the next day. Until someone in QC starts checking the fit and tolerance, this thing should not be used. ... show more

  • The product is great and works as designed.
The product is great and works as designed. Yesterday, I grabbed a second holder to add a tool, only to learn that the other three are not the typical tool holders. One was a boring bar—OK, the other two were not functional for my use. It is undoubtedly my fault for not checking closer. I did end up ordering additional tool holders. Given the limited description, I will not know until Saturday if the added holders will work with this post. I am a novice, thus I learned a lesson ... show more

  • Not worth it.
At first I wanted to try this quick change kit because this is my first mini lathe. Once I received the quich change tool post and blocks I was not impressed. None of the blocks fit properly, there was such a big gap between the tool blocks and the quick change post that nothing was steady. I ordered other tool blocks from ebay and those fit a lot better with just a slight filing for them to slip on. Using the boring tool there is a lot of flex and your cuts are sloppy and eventually over sized. I got tired of messing with this kit and decided to order a kit that is solid steel. I received the steel kit today and am really impressed with it. There is absolutely no flex from any of the cutting tools, the quick change blocks fit perfectly and are extremely secure when tightened. There is a huge difference in price when it comes to the steel kit and the aluminum kit. The steel kit costs about 4x more, but its really worth it. If I had known this from the beginning I would have just ordered the steel kit and not waste my money on this aluminum kit along with all the extra quick change blocks I got also. This is the one I got and its really worth it, everything fits perfectly and there is zero flex. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HW2HTF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ... show more
