I live amidst woods, with dogs and chickens in my backyard. During the summer, we used to have excessive flies around the compost and chicken coops, making it uncomfortable for everyone. I tried every kind of fly trap and electrical gadget, but nothing works as well as this type of fly trap. These traps are effective in catching a huge number of flies. They are of high quality, but you must be careful when preparing the trap so you don't rip the bag, rendering it useless. You must also ensure the plastic top is securely snapped into the base. There is no poison in the bag, as it's a trap. The packet contains a terrible-smelling attractant that lures flies into the bag, where they drown in the water. The awful smell is why you should hang these away from where you want to get rid of flies – you are attracting them to where they will die. Once the fly trap is filled with water and hung up, it takes about two warm days before the odor is ripe for flies to be attracted like crazy, enter, and die. This method is economical for catching and killing flies, and when the bag is full, I use a zip tie to seal it and toss it out on trash night. ... show more

...but, it states to cut at the dotted line and never doing this before, I cut at the only dotted line I saw at the time...and it was the fill line. :/ After I cut at the wrong dotted line I found the correct dotted circle on the top. Of course, this was my ignorance that did this, lol, but instructions need to be changed. MAKING THE FILL LINE SOLID-RED COLOR would be nice, and STATE on instructions, "Cut dotted line on top". It was easy set up once I ruined the first one, lol...and it seems to work a bit. I don't seem to have as many flies, but the bag isn't swimming with flies so I'm not sure... It's definitely worth a try. *CUT CIRCLE ON TOP. 😁 ... show more

I hate flies!!!! This is so fantastic and I couldn't be more grateful!! We hooked one up next to the shed. No more than five minutes later, we saw at least six flies in there!! The next day, I felt so relieved not to have flies buzzing around me! I checked the trap and was extremely happy to see more of them in it. Followed all the instructions, and filled it just below the full line to hang in my chicken pen. Immediately upon tying it up with the enclosed rope it burst and smashed to the ground spilling onto the dirt of my enclosure. I have no idea what the mixture is inside or if it would harm my pets so I had to try to clean it all up so they would not drink it. Don’t think I will bother trying the other packs. ... show more

So I've had these up for roughly 12 hours now, with the sheer amount of flies in our chicken area I was I guess expecting more success by now? I'm not sure if it's because I also have fly ribbons up in the are so that's just getting them first. It's caught a few so far, but I think I'll take the ribbons down and see if that has any impact on how many flies we catch in these. ... show more

    • No muss no fuss hang and they do the job
A little snip of the top of the package, add some water and hand it up with the provided string. It takes a few hours for the bag in the bag to totally hydrate but once it does as it by magic the flies are attracted to it and fly in and can't get out and of course perish. Keep your porch or patio a little more comfortable by ridding it of those little pests. ... show more

I know the description says outdoors, but we have a fruit fly issue and we've tried everything. I put one bag 3 days ago and is working perfectly. It has caught more than 10 flies so far.
