  • Serger review
The machine was threaded wrong & the settings & tensions were also wrong. Took me a while to thread & set tensions right.

  • Solid machine, great value—but threading can be difficult
I bought this serger to replace my Brother 1034D, which broke irreparably after just a few months of use. So far, this one feels much sturdier and more capable. It handles multiple layers of thicker fabric like a champ and simply glides through them. My Brother had fits going over thicker seams, so this is a huge improvement. Plus, this machine has a nice, clean stitch. I also appreciate the seam allowance measurements marked on the front casing. However, this machine is a lot more difficult to thread than the Brother. It took me several tries (including watching the instructional DVD multiple times) to get it threaded correctly the first time, and even longer to get the tension right. I've since had issues with the loopers becoming unthreaded in the middle of use—even when the machine had been working correctly for a long time. And when that happens, there's basically no chance of just rethreading the problem area. You will have to rethread the entire thing from scratch in order to make it work correctly again. It can cause a lot of frustration when this happens in the middle of a seam! Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase, and I think it's a great value. The finicky threading may scare away beginners or those looking for an easier setup, but for those that can look past that, the Juki MO-50E is a solid, powerful machine that does a great job. ... show more

  • Juki serger
I intended to use the machine a little longer before writting the review but I'm just so excited about this machine I couldn't wait. I have been sewing for about 40 years. I grew up when sewing wasn't a craft, it was a matter of economics so we had to learn. And we always used a Singer. When I bought my first serger, it was a Singer Stylist. It has always been a struggle to make it work correctly - I spent more time coaxing it into working than I spent actually sewing. When it died a sudden death, after only a couple of years, I decided to try this Juki. I LOVE IT. It threads quickly and easily and sews a beautiful seam. MY old Stylist was loud and vibrated a lot; this machine is much quieter and runs very smoothly. My old Stylist machine was tricky to thread; this machine threads very easily, I got it right the first time. (Playing with the new toy: I unthreaded it many times just so that I could rethread it and make sure I could consistantly thread it properly.) I have already sewn a few garments and can tell this machine is a real workhorse. I hope to buy an electronic sewing machine soon and it will be a Juki. I have given up on Singer (many reasons why, but this is not the place), seems the old reliable ain't so reliable anymore. ... show more

  • Too many issues
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been in the sewing business for 40 years. I’ve worked with many machines. This machine sews great but it comes with no accessories. So be prepared to have to buy your own hexagon wrench to change the needles. While you’re at it, but new light bulbs to fit the machine. This machine is fresh out of the box after replacing the first machine I ordered. The stitches are beautiful for a rolled hem. But it’s definitely not worth the money when we have to buy the accessories separately. I need a machine right now or this would be going back to Amazon asap. ... show more

  • It's okay for the price
Just recieved the juki today. Easy to set up if you know a server. It doesn't come with thread spools but it has thread that is threaded Thur so u can tie ur thread onto the existing thread then pull Thur Cons: the knife is in the way of threading the needles and they don't give u a needle threader

  • Great little serger
I have owned several sergers, including a high end one, but all older models (now). With poor eyesight, I finally gave up on threading them. The price and the “lower auto threading” feature on this machine caught my eye. I watched a video showing how it was threaded online and that won me over. When my serger arrived (which was quickly), I set it up, followed the directions and had immediate success. I have since retreaded it twice, once just tying on different thread. That went just fine also. Adjustments for different effects are easy to use and I highly recommend this machine. Thank you Juki for making a machine that works great and is easy to thread! ... show more
