  • Smooth, quiet, tons of features, quality seems excellent
Style: Machine
I didn't know about these new computerized sewing machines until very recently. I've done canvas work on my sailboat with my Sailrite walking foot machine and a little home sewing with a nice old Kenmore from the 80's, but WOW, this Juki is fantastic. So many conveniences. Very nice. The instruction manual is extremely well done, too, something of a rarity these days. I skipped the DX7 and saved about $600. This DX5 is identical except for some more specialty stitches and a few accessories you can add anyway if you want. The control knobs would be nice, but the buttons on this one work fine also. Maybe a person sewing all day every day would want the knobs for slightly quicker adjustments, but for most people they're not worth hundreds of dollars. ... show more

  • It’s a wow sewing machine!
Style: Machine
I love my Juki DX5, it’s my first Juki sewing machine. The stitches are perfect, and it can sew from very thin fabric to thick ones without a hiccup. It’s a strong machine with a cute design. I was searching for a good and strong “sew and go” machine, to do small alterations. To my surprise the Juki DX5 is as good as the Bernina. I’ve bought the Juki DX5 and the Janome Skyline 3 at the same time. I returned the Skyline, Juki is by far better, it’s at another level. It’s truly automatic, you don’t have to keep on changing the tension. The Janome Skyline is smooth and replacing the presser foot is a breeze, but the decorative stitches are finicky and the machine has too many tension issues for a computerized machine, it defeats its purpose. If you’re not sure which one to pick, go for the Juki DX Series, you’ll not regret. ... show more

  • Wonderful sewing machine
Style: Machine
This is my second sewing machine. First one was a Brothers CS6000i. Pretty basic compared to the Juki HZL DX5. Thought it was time to move up....lol. I spent 2-3 months looking at reviews on this machine. It is a learning curve but has some wonderful features. Especially like the thread cutter and the automatic needle threader. Much easier than on the Brothers. And the other great feature was rewinding the bobbin. It has it's own separate motor. Easy to read instruction manual. I am really happy with my Juki. ... show more

  • Workes great after repair.
Style: Machine
When I received the machine the timing went off fast. Did not get any ware with Juki very poor service. Paid $160.00 to have the machine serviced, turned out the screw to hold the hook was not tightened. Very un-happy with Juki service but like the machine.

  • Quality is great! Nice heavy duty machine. Worth the money
Style: Machine
Bought for my daughter. She absolutely loves it!! She sews on it almost constantly! She’s amazed at how easy different fabrics can be sewn on it her other machine couldn’t handle. She has made so many wonderful things on this machine! Best thing I’ve gotten her ever!!

  • Out $200 because warranty not honored
Style: Machine
I liked this machine - I thought it was the sweet spot of price, features, and size (I often make quilts so having the extra harp space was a bonus). About 10 months into owning it an electrical issue prevented the foot pedal from working consistently and made the machine change to back stitch randomly. Juki has a 2 year warranty on electrical parts, but you need to have it serviced at the "dealer" that sold it to you. Well, no surprise that Amazon doesn't service sewing machines. They did give me an "exception" to return it, but loaded on fees meaning that I lost $200 off the purchase price!! I don't like buying sewing machines at quilt shops - it feels like a car negotiation - but I guess I've learned my lesson and won't buy through Amazon again. ... show more

  • Quality machine and great seller.
Style: Machine
I’m really enjoying this Juki ! I bought it to take retreats in place of my Featherweight and it’s going to do the job just great. The seller was very responsive to my request for a shipping date so I could take it with me. Would buy again.

  • Returned but want to try another one
Style: Machine
I had a Juki hxl-f400 that died after 11 years. I also have a Juki qvp-mini quilting machine that is a joy to use. So I tried this Juki hzl-dx. Right out of the box it was very similar to my f400. This machine is so quiet. And one thing I loved is the thread cutter was quicker and quieter than the f400. Threaded the same as the f400. Sewed a few test run samples. On the second day I was hemming some dress slacks and the error LOWER PRESSER FOOT would not go away. Tried everything then just turned off the power. Error cleared when I turned it back on. Returned machine. It's never a good sign if the electronics present problems within 72 hours of receipt. I want to try this machine again. I feel it was just a dud. It happens in life. After all they are machines and are not perfect. ... show more
