  • Best $35 you will ever spend! Highly recommend for Stoner/Doom metal.
Style: Distortion,Overdrive Color: Red
I've had one of these pedals for 8 years and just recently bought another for my bass player. Never had any issues, I've used it battery powered and with a 9V power supply. Well built and looks fantastic! Can perform in a lot of styles, but I highly recommend it for Stoner/Doom metal. Sounds best played through the clean channel on a tube amp. I love the sound of this pedal so much because you can dial in that warm giant hazy fuzzy sound on sustained chords, but at the same time also palm mute and get that tight articulated tone on your single note lines. It's the best of both worlds in my opinion. This pedal also has ALOT of volume so you can really push your amp. Let me also mention that this pedal sounds amazing on bass guitar as well. Thick, gnarly and downright apocalyptic! I cannot recommend this pedal enough, buy one, it will be the best $35 you will ever spend. ... show more

  • A Perfect Fit for Any Pedalboard
Style: Distortion,Overdrive Color: Red
The Joyo Ultimate Drive pedal is far from a clone of the Fulltone OCD as has been stated in some YouTube reviews. It provides a depth of grit that the OCD really can't match. The Ultimate Drive sits comfortably in between overdrive and distortion, and adds a well needed gain dimension to any amp. My tests were done using a Marshall Class 5 amp and a 1978 Marshall JMP 100 watt head. Tweaking the settings is easy and must be done to maximize results. On a relatively clean amp, I found the optimal gain setting is around 2 O'Clock. Tone and volume are like salt and pepper in a recipe. A small amount can go a long way. On a mildly distorted amp, such as the Marshall JMP, the Ultimate Drive adds a very musical edge simply by dialing in a small amount of distortion. I never needed to move the Gain control past 10 O'Clock to make the JMP sing. If your amp has a presence control, it's best to dial it all the way back and let the Ulitimate Drive pedal handle those mid and high frequencies, otherwise you will hit instant non musical feedback. The Ultimate Drive also features a High and Low switch that flip between two levels of compression. In the up position, the response is more open and airy, while the low position focuses on a tighter feel with a great degree of picking articulation. This a great way to get a contemporary metal "thump" with virtually any amp. The Joyo Ultimate Drive comes in a pleasntly menacing, very rock and roll black powder coated metal box. It's as sturdy as any other stomp box on the market today. This is not your parents TS 808 or TS9 overdrive. This is much more a palate of sonic possibilities that will make your amp come alive. ... show more

  • Pretty good for the money
Style: Distortion,Overdrive Color: Red
Obviously it's not gonna be the greatest pedal in the world at it's price but it's not too bad. It really puts out a lot and it can sound really muddy depending on your amp settings. But with some tinkering, you can get it sounding pretty good.

  • There’s a reason for the hype.
Style: Distortion,Overdrive Color: Red
If you’re here you might’ve read far too deeply into how the Joyo compares to the OCD and which version. Then you’ll read how it’s not even that close and supposedly there’s a diode that’s upside down because of a mislabeled PCB. Then you’ll watch demo videos and scratch your head at how widely they seem to vary, or not at all. I’m here to save you from this psychosis and tell you to JUST BUY THE PEDAL. Seriously, it sounds RIDICULOUSLY good for $35. So good it’ll kick most other drives off your board. Truth; it’s actually not that far off from an OCD. And it is in fact one of the most versatile drives you’ll play. I mean I honestly like it better than a RAT, and that was previously my desert island drive for covering everything from light OD to almost Fuzz. Just buy the fricken thing, you won’t be sorry. ... show more

  • Doesn’t sound like it’s clone.
Style: Distortion,Overdrive Color: Red
I have been curious with the cheaper pedals and seeing if they are a true clone. Geeeeez does this miss the mark. Again, I believe reviews, but people reviewing this must not have played the real OCD. This thing had a low muddy gain. I have to put a transparent OD with an EQ and a boost to get it to sound decent. And definitely doesn’t stack well with my other pedals. I wouldn’t even suggest this to a beginner. ... show more
