It's not loud to me I actually like the sound of fans, it does not bother me at all. My husband said it was really simple to put together. Once it was on it cooled the room really fast. This air conditioner is pretty good for the price. We have a 900 sq ft apartment (1 bedroom) and we use it in our bedroom. It is possible to feel the cooling effects in our main room but not too much. I did a lot of research and this one seemed to be the best bang for the buck. It is not too noisy (I like the sound of it at night). It was extremely easy to install, we have horizontal windows so it took maybe 2 minutes at most. One thing I will say is that we do not have any outlets near the windows and the power cord is kind of short so I had to purchase an appliance extension cord (no issues). My electricity bill went up about $20 a month and we run it pretty frequently. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the hose is very thick and does not bend easily. I know it is not meant to be bent but it is pretty stiff compared to our other one. This one also is self-evaporating because we are in a non-humid climate (Los Angeles) so I never need to dump the water. ... show more

We lost air conditioning at my office. We were down for 2 weeks waiting for parts. I bought a 12k BTU system from the local HD. It ran constantly, not once shutting off and kept the front office cool. THIS UNIT- the compressor would constantly overheat. It would blow cool for 5-10 minutes, then the compressor would shut off, and blow warm. Over the course of the weekend, it actually raised the temp in the room we used it by a couple degrees. We wound up taking it out, and using fans to move the air from the front to the back. I wouldn't recommend this unit, at all. And I'm in the HVAC business. This unit said vent kit would work on vertical opening windows but had to spend 1 1/2 hours trimming before they fit. The width of edges to wide to fit in the track. The vent hose produces heat, defeats the purpose of ac . Vent hose should be insulated. Would return but had to cut box to get unit out, plus trimming on the vent kit . ... show more
