Width sides have some kind of slat woven into the fabric which helps aid it not to roll and to lay flat. This pic was taken after laying it down and as you can see there's no lumps or wrinkles. This is a very nice indoor/outdoor rug. Since we use it on the deck, being thin helps it to dry faster and it is far less of a tripping hazard like many other outdoor rugs. I cannot speak to longevity, but it appears that it will hold up sufficiently for at least several summers.
