I made Chillie Rellenos for the first time and needed an egg separator other than my wife who likes to show her skills in this art despite the fact it takes forever. In the time it takes her to separate one egg pouring it back and forth, this delightful tool did six. The feet are not just for aesthetic pleasure, they act as grips for the side of the bowl into which you want your egg whites to go. The whites dropped into the measuring cup within seconds and I quickly cracked and poured another egg into the Separator. Within two minutes, I had the egg whites ready to mix into foam and my dog had some yolks scrambled and ready to go into his food dish for the next four feedings. There were many separators on Amazon from which to choose, but this one was Prime Eligible and came at a low price and I love it. It is easy to clean, small for storage, and when I teach my grandkids how to make banana pudding and lemon meringue pie the way my grandmother and aunts did, it will even be fun for them to look at and use. And I'm talking REAL pudding and pie, not this from a box stuff. ;) We do it old school. :) Don't waste your money folks, this is all you'll need unless you're doing duck, emu, or ostrich eggs... and don't laugh, I've seen all of those at the Washington DC area Whole Foods.

Okay I thought why not try it, it looks cute, plastic and hangs off the side of the bowl. Will it really work that easy? I was no master chef, so I was never good with how folks could crack an egg and shuffle the egg yolk and whites between them. I did try once and just broke the yolk trying to do it like a chef. Well I cracked the egg into this plastic egg separator and even before I took it off the edge of the bowl, most of the whites had already dropped off into the bowl. I was like no way. Since I was make a cake that used 7 egg yolks, I keep trying it again and again and again. It was so so easy I couldn't believe it. I had previously been using a small stainless steel wired cupped egg separator that still needed me to swirl it a bit and pull at the whites to remove it. Now, this plastic cute looking egg separator did it in no time flat. What a timesaver for me. It was also easy to wash, no need to toss in a dishwasher . Super easy and fast.

I thought these were stupid and unnecessary until I got one. I make a lot of Swiss meringue buttercream and OMG I WISH I HAD GOTTEN THIS EARLIER! It is well designed so that the yolk doesn’t break and the white separates cleanly from it. Plus, it hooks onto the side of a bowl or measuring cup so that you have two hands to crack the eggs. It is a product you can live without, of course, but it is worth the space it takes up in a drawer and if you have kids that like to help, they can separate eggs on their own. Much better than those silicone suction separators which have a higher risk of breaking the yolks. I will be giving lots of these as gifts.

As far as egg separators go this works okay, it's inexpensive, as well as cute. I like that it clips on the edge of your bowl as long as the edge isn't too thick. You crack an egg into his belly & if it doesn't go right through just jiggle him a bit to help separate the yolk. It works well most of the time, but sometimes the yolk does slip through with the white. That doesn't happen often but it's best to put your eggs into a separate bowl so you can fish out any yolks that fall in. I don't use it every day, I use it when I bake. It's just one of those little helpers to make tedious jobs go faster, like when I need to separate a dozen eggs for a cake. I wouldn't put this in the dishwasher, I wash it in hot soapy water. I've had it 5 years & it still looks brand new. It's actually cheaper now than when I bought it.

I like to cook and when my nieces are over, they like to help me. I separate my eggs just using the egg shell halves, going back and forth, allowing the white to drop down into a bowel while the yolk stays in the shell... Not too hard. Sometimes the yolk breaks, but that's a pretty rare happening. My 8 year old niece LOVES to remove the yolk from the white. But, it's hard for her to do it with the egg shells. She's getting better, but when I saw this product was available, I just had to get it for her and make her life easier (and my kitchen less messy!). This works great! It's easy to use and it's really cute.

This item works ok. However, for first time purchaser/users keep in mind there is a process for using this item when you are cutting eggs for potato salad or any other salad where you want small cube size pieces. First, this item works better with eggs that are small or medium size. Second, you have to turn the actual egg 3 times and 2 different ways to achieve the correct cube cut (this is true with any egg slicer like this one). Here are the instructions: 1. Line the egg up lengthwise (in the same direction of the cutting tines) 2. Carefully grab all of the cut egg and turn or rotate 1/4 turn (still lengthwise) and cut again; 3. Carefully Grab all of the cut egg and turn or rotate cross wise (or width of egg) so that the last cut is perpendicular to the first 2 cuts (or to cut across the first 2 cuts). Note: it takes a little practice to get the hang of grabbing the cut egg and turning it so it doesn't fall apart as you turn it. I actually went out and bought a Faberware egg slicer at Wal-mart. It is about 2/4" longer which accommodates a large egg (or larger) much better than this product. The measurements weren't really helpful unless you had a product to compare those measurements to. I guess I could have gone to Wal-mart and measured the Faberware slicer first, but I didn't think of it ahead of time. Plus I was trying to shop from home and avoid going out. Nonetheless, I have kept them both but I like the Faberware better because it is larger. Both items are fairly easy to clean. I encourage you to wash immediately after use for easier cleaning. I can't speak to durability yet. I'll have to update this review in the months ahead once I've had longer. Delivery was prompt and the packaging was fine.

First off, Happy Thanksgiving 2012! I am in the kitchen baking pies and had to write a quick review of this little gizmo while I'm thinking of it. This is my second egg separator - the first (fancy stainless with a silicon cup) was a disaster. The slots weren't large enough and I couldn't get it to work once. This little item? I clipped it to a cup, 6 eggs later, boom, perfect egg whites. So Easy. No jiggling the cup to try to get the egg whites to come down into it. It worked perfectly without me having to "learn the hard way" with a few mistakes - literally 6 eggs and 6 perfect white separations. I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and decided on this one because (a) it's cute and (b) it's cheap so if it doesn't work then no big wooop and (c) all the positive reviews. All egg separators are NOT the same....get this one, it works. So the expensive one is going into the trash - and this one becomes a permanent part of my kitchen utensil drawer. Hope this helps !!
