I've been looking for a clean hair clay for such a long time. We have four boys and try to avoid "Fragrance" (endocrine disruptors) as much as possible. It seemed like the clean formulas didn't hold their hair. This stuff is perfect. It smells awesome and lasts a long time too. Couldn't be more pleased.

So I've seen a few people complaining that the "rugged scent" is "like incense." If you open the jar and whiff, it 100% smells like a candle. But it's pleasant once it's in your hair. You get light whiffs of the juniper and Cuban during the day. For the first 5 minutes, it's stronger. But then it's just a mild refreshing scent that sticks with you. As for the actual quality of the Clay Pomade, compared to a true matte clay, it's ever so slightly shinier. It's not a natural shine. I'd describe it more as dull than pure matte. Matte, for me, is to where your hair is dry and makes it a little lighter. This one gives it just a little dark tone, not much (Not shiny, just a little darker). As for the hold, it holds strong at first, but you may need to touch it up a few times (It'll lose its hold a bit throughout the day). I think this is mostly because it's beeswax. It dissolves a bit. So the hold is strong at first, then more of a medium hold after about 6 hours, at which point sometimes combing it fixes the hold oddly enough, or just a dab more clay will fix it. Overall, I think this is a decent clay, and the slight cons are worth not having a bunch of harsh chemicals on your head all day. It's pricey stuff, but you don't need much of it, just about the tip of your index, maybe two or three more dabs.

Best stuff you can buy. It's expensive for hair product but it works amazingly well. I get bad dandruff with 90% of products but thus stuff has kept my scalp from itching and keeps my hair styled all day. Worth every penny!

Really like the product. It is definitely as described. Putting ingredients and I think the smell is great. Don’t know why some people complain about that. I don’t know if they could cut down on some cost with the packaging. Comes in a super heavyweight Amber glass jar. I get the protective product maybe? But I would hope some other packaging would make it less expensive. I also do agree that you are in a category of your own with a more natural hair product that actually works.

Love the smell of this! Purchased for my son and he loves the smell, and that it’s a matte paste. The main reason for trying this originally was the natural ingredients, but very happy with the hold and quality of it after trying it. It’s been great to use in my braids as well to help tame the flyaways.
