I have four kids that needed umbrellas and after I learned how to operate this (I thought auto close meant it would close the umbrella AND push itself back down the handle), showed them the steps: (1) Undo the strap that holds it together; (2) Press the button to open it; (3) when done, press the button again; (4) wind the strap around the umbrella so it's secure again - this is slightly tough for smaller kids; (5) push the umbrella back into the handle - my smaller kids pushed it against the floor so it's back to its compact size. If you don't follow the steps, it takes an adult to 'reset' the umbrella since nothing catches on the stem and it would appear broken, a bit too tough for little kids to figure out - otherwise fantastic deal! ... show more

These are pretty good quality for the price: thick and sturdy enough. It lost a star because they get so short when you close them that it is hard to click it closed.
