I have neither the disposable income nor sonic vocabulary to consider myself an audiophile, but I appreciate good sound and easy-to-use products. The JBL Flip 6 embodies both qualities. For its size (roughly comparable to a fast-casual burrito), specs, and price, this speaker sounds fantastic. I listen to a variety of music that includes jazz fusion, 70s prog rock, and EDM. All sound quite pleasant. In both loudness and sound quality, this speaker provides a large and unequivocal step up from the built-in speakers of any smartphone, tablet, or laptop. The sound mix out of the box is reasonably well-balanced, with punchy bass and subtly boosted mids and highs. As long as the speaker is on a solid surface, I couldn't detect distortion until the volume was well over 75%. Certain higher-pitched vocals can sound overboosted and tinny, but that's easy to mitigate by adjusting the equalizer in the JBL mobile app. The speaker's user interface is simple and relatively intuitive. The power and Bluetooth pairing buttons are recessed and located on the bottom, which helps prevent them from getting pressed accidentally. I wish these buttons offered a little more tactile feedback when pressed and included a nubbin on the power button to more easily locate it by feel, but these aren't dealbreakers. The USB-C charging port is also on the bottom. Play/pause, volume controls, and button to activate JBL's wireless daisy-chaining feature are on top. Just turn on the speaker, press the Bluetooth pairing button, and select "JBL Flip 6" in your device's Bluetooth settings. I understand why the JBL Flip series has been so popular. I would buy this JBL Flip 6 over and over, works better than Bose. JBL FLIP 6 has very clear and fantastic sound, especially with the design and quality JBL gives you. It has easy to connect Bluetooth, high and low volume buttons, charger, on and off button and a battery range window. Good overall speaker. Easy to tote around. The lanyard makes it convenient to hang from something to keep it off any suspect surfaces. Love the camouflage with orange accents. It has great sound quality and bass. I have not jacked up the volume on this all the way, mostly for respect of my neighbors, but I can assure that with what I've heard so far, this will get plenty loud. I have also not tested its "waterproof" ability. Those claims always make me a little nervous 😬. Ok, some negatives: Battery life seems good. It lasts me awhile before charging. I have not played it for hours on end so not sure if the battery lasts the full 12 hours as stated by the company. I don't like the battery indicator. It only shows as a line near the power button when you turn it on and off. Otherwise, during play, it's off and you have no idea how much battery life is left until it gets near the end and then the battery indicator will turn red. Also, occasionally I have had a "crackling" sound come through the speaker while playing music or streaming a workout. It has only happened a few times so I'm not sure if it's a pairing issue. I would think if it was a wiring or software problem it would happen more frequently. Really, for the most part it has been fine but when the crackling happens it is SUPER annoying and I basically have to shut down whatever I'm playing at the time. Overall, I'm happy with it and enjoy using it. I like the look and the sound quality. The few knocks on it that I mentioned bring my rating to 4 stars. **Update** I still occasionally get the disruption in play. It sounds like when you are just getting out of range of a radio station and the music begins to break up. By accident, I noticed that if I put the paired device right next to the speaker that this helped improve the disruption. But they literally need to be right next to each other. I now feel that this is a pairing and distance issue with this speaker. Basically you need to keep the two VERY close together. As previously mentioned, this doesn't happen all the time, seems random, but when it does, that distance adjustment has seemed to help. If I could go back in time I may skip the JBL and purchase a WonderBoom instead. I have a small version of that and it seems to work great. Hope this helps, take care. ... show more
