  • good machine for advanced beginner or intermediate seamster
I bought this machine to replace a 10 year old Singer which had some decorative stitches and a front loading bobbin. I have been sewing for over 50 years and swore by my Singer sewing machines, but had issues with bobbin thread's tangling and consistent tension. I sew a lot of clothing, different kinds of bags, and do a little quilting. The Janome is so much better than than my old machine - it is heavier, has a top loading bobbin and a lot more decorative stitches (that I am slowly learning how to use). I also am learning to use a walking foot for the first time - how I ever got along without one I will never know! So far, I am very happy with the machine - I have been quilting some placemats as my first projects on it. ... show more

  • Worth every penny!
I love this machine! And I have used a lot of sewing machines in my work. The needle threader works like a charm and the jam-proof lower spool is a must. Worth every penny!!

  • Transitioning from hand sewing
This was a great deal! I’ve never used a sewing machine but with some basic videos off the Janome website and patience I was able to get it set up to tryout the basic stitching. I’m excited to finally have an alternative to hand sewing and a quicker way to make diy face masks.

  • A Wonderful Machine--Especially for a Beginner, Like Me
Until I purchased this machine, I had never used a sewing machine in my life. After a lot of research, I knew I needed an easy-to-use, well-made machine so I wouldn't have to fight with finicky tension and quirky hardware issues. I also wanted one powerful enough to sew through tougher materials because I want to be able to make my own outdoor gear (e.g. backpack and tent). As a woodworker, I really appreciate a well-designed tool, and I am really, really, impressed with this machine. It's amazingly easy to thread, and it sews beautifully. Even with my ignorance of many sewing techniques, my first two projects turned out better than I thought they might. I made a facemask with a filter insert pocket and a cuben fiber hip pack to keep my phone dry on the trail. The machine's tension didn't need adjusting at all from the poly-cotton mask to the extremely tough cuben fiber and nylon webbing on the pack. It sewed though all those materials with absolutely no problems and with perfectly clean stitches. I'll likely never use most of the 200 stitches on this machine, but I have really enjoyed the speed adjustment slider and the auto-up needle position. Also, even though I mentioned this earlier, I cannot stress enough how awesome the threader is. I can thread the machine in just a few seconds. Initially, as a beginner, I wondered if I bought too much machine. After a week and a half of sewing, I know that I made the right decision. ... show more

  • Do not buy this machine.
It was totally impossible to thread a bobbin. The directions were lacking. I purchased a bobbin threader to make the best of a bad situation . I paid too much to discard the item and I really wanted to do so. Again do not waste you money!

  • Dissatisfied with my experience
Hi there. I ordered this machine in May of 2020. I was very excited and didn't even get the chance to use it. I began working through the instruction booklet and a piece of my machine broke off. I sent it to a sewing repair shop and they continued to reach out to Janome to receive the replacement for the part. They learned that the part I need isnt in stock and have been able to get any more information out of Janome. I will continue updates on my efforts to repair the machine. It's not uncommon for a machine to need some help and I'm not satisfied with the experience I've had so far with trying to get it to work again ... show more

  • Certain parts can break easily
Be aware of the presser foot lever to change the presser foot. I broke mine the very first time I tried to use it. Read the directions CAREFULLY. Also cannot get the automatic needle threader to work

  • I love this sewing machine.
I'm using my sewing machine a lot. I've had it for about 4 ir 5 months. Now that the lubricating oil it has applied in its gears is well distributed, it hums smoothly right along. I used my economic stimulus check to buy this machine and some sewing supplies and fabrics. Now I'm making masks. I also made an apron, and have plans to make some dresses. The machine is really simple to use and can make many more kinds of stitches than my old Singer from the 80's. I love this machine. ... show more
