  • A very nice machine
I have had this sewing machine for about a month. I was about half way finished with a quilt when I received it. This machine is very easy to use and the instructions were easy to understand. It went through the seams nicely without any hesitation while using the quilting/walking foot (the one I bought came with the walking foot). It’s much quieter than my old machine so that is a plus. This model has a few fancy stitches and I used one at the hem of an apron I made ( the next project after completing the quilt). I transport my sewing machine to the sewing club and I find it a nice weight for this purpose too. At approximately 12 pounds it’s not hard for me to lift in and out of my travel bag. The extra supplies that come with the machine are in a zip lock but I found it hard to find the items I needed so I am using a makeup bag I purchased from the dollar store to keep them organized. All in all I think this is a great machine for a beginner and a moderate sewer like me. I would highly recommended this sewing machine ... show more

  • Awesome machine!
I was looking at this machine and the Brother CS6000i because they both have the exact features I was looking for.... most especially full speed control, feed dog drop, extension table, and being computerized. I am most especially interested in quilting and making bags, decorative pillows and accessories such as slippers, as well as warm winter clothing and pajamas. Now the Brother definitely has the price on it's side but I already knew Janome has a reputation for making solid machines that do not wear down quickly and use metal parts wherever possible Well, I went ahead and bought this machine as an open box/used one to bring down the price a bit, as regularly this machine is priced much higher than the Brother. So I ended up paying 50$ more than I would have for the Brother. what I got was a torn up box, but the machine inside looks and acts like it has never been used and is in perfect working order with not a scratch on it. In addition, I have a very solid machine, the likes of which I would expect to pay much much more than I did, and even more than I would have paid had it been "new". This machine sews rock solid straight. It feels like a solid machine and does not feel like I could easily break it. I have managed to get it to sew through multiple layers of fabric easily. The machine is quiet, and I have gained confidence in my sewing due to having complete control over the speed... even with just using the foot pedal, the speed of the machine is intuitive. It does not start suddenly at high speed after hesitating like my previous machine did. It is very responsive to the touch. The bobbin was easy to wind and load, the stitch selection and size is easy to program. I especially like that I can see the bobbin working as I go and know when it is getting close to empty. One other thing that made me choose this machine over the Brother is that it uses a standard 15 bobbin, rather than a specialized bobbin designed just for Brother machines. I am really happy that I can just keep using the bobbins I have and did not have to purchase special bobbins just for that machine. I expect to still be using this machine for a long long time and standardized bobbins I know I will always be able to get. This is a great machine and more well than worth it's retail price. I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Great for plush sewing
I did a lot of research before deciding on this to be my new sewing machine. It preforms wonderful and is a great price for it's durability, accessories, and stitches. I had a pretty cheap sewing machine previously for about 6 years (brother jx2517) that had a few things broken on it and it's very noticeable how much better this machine preforms. I sew plush toys and within the first 3 months of having this machine I have already made about 10 toys plus I've done a few other projects. ... show more

  • Wonderful Sewing Machine
I really enjoy sewing with this machine. It has so many features. My favorite is the speed control and that is is not noisy when it’s sewing. It’s easy to use and the instructions are easy to follow. I’m working on a quilt and can’t wait to make more quilts, canvas bags and more creative items. I’m very happy I chose a Janome. ... show more

  • Great Start
As other reviewers have stated, if you are a Janome loyalist (like I am), then this is what you need for quilt guilds, sewing bees, and travel (or just a less costly back-up). When I got this machine today, I noticed immediately that it offers much of the familiarity of what my standby more expensive and much heavier Janome machines do (with a lot of the same stitching quality). It operates much like my Janome MC9850, as well as my Horizon 8200QCP.(which were 2K each, and too heavy to travel with). So there's not much new here to learn to use it right out of the box. Of course, there are no thread cutting scissors and it is a 7mm machine, not too many bells and whisles). But the feet you need come with it, and the little extension table is wonderful. You can program up/down on the needle, and it has a decent auto threader, and speed control. My new little Jw8100 passed the test drive and is going to be packed in the sewing trolley and ready to go to my next quilt guild meeting(while it seems sturdy, it is weighing in at just 12 lbs)! For the price, you can't beat it. I'll update my review if there are any changes. But if all goes well, then I this is what I need for traveling and preserving a familiar set-up with similar quality. ... show more
