It is very lightweight. The instructions are in Japanese ONLY. I did find an instruction book in English on the internet though. No matter what I do the stitches are a little off and the little thing sounds like a freight train running though the house. It is very portable, less than 5 pounds. The masks that I am making are 3 layers with ribbon ties and the machine can sew through all of that with no problem. Oh, the box actually turns into a carrying case...has a little handle at the top.

I was extremely disappointed with this machine for my great granddaughter. It us more of a toy and does not produce successful stitching. She did better with a regular machine.

***BEGIN ORIGINAL REVIEW (about a week in)*** A couple reviews had me worried, but I ordered anyways because the design was cute lol, but this machine DELIVERS. I’ve had a few bad experiences with machines in the past, mechanical and skill issues, but this lil guy has none of that. I was able to thread it very easily and get going immediately. The instructions are in Japanese, but with the Google Translator app it should be no problem. The instructions go over threading, bobbins, and beginner techniques. Even when translated they’re very helpful and keep beginners like myself in mind. The build quality of the machine is also impressive, it’s small enough to keep in a small apartment like mine, but is made with a high quality sturdy plastic, the printed design is crisp and cute, and it’s easy to fix if the thread jams. (Which happened a couple times, but that was due to my fabric fraying and not an issue with the machine.) I was also worried about sound, but it’s not really any louder than the average sewing machine. If anything, it’s a bit quieter than my last one. (Still noisy though, I wouldn’t run it at 3AM with my roommates home.) Overall, this machine is fantastic. Great bang for your buck. Only long term problem I can imagine is not enough stitch options, but as a beginner it’s not an issue. I can see myself using this thing until it breaks. For an impulse purchase based on the Hello Kitty design, it’s a great one. If you’re a beginner looking to start somewhere, I’d say to buy this, and while waiting for it to arrive watch a few videos for beginners as starting on a sewing machine with no prior experience can be VERY tough. The learning curve on any machine ever is tough if you’ve never touched one before. Just be patient and it’ll go amazing! ***END ORIGINAL REVIEW*** Yeah no. It doesn’t hold up. It jams up a lot and I’ve had to deal with bad timing twice now. (There is no real fix, you gotta crank the hand wheel until it clicks. I found out by accident.) As a collectable, it’s gorgeous. Great quality of the material, but as a sewing machine it’s held together by rubber bands and a prayer. It’s fine when making clothing, for the most part. I made one skirt no issues, and the second jammed up and threw the timing. I tried making a blanket and OH LORD, this lil guy does NOT like any more than two layers of fabric. As a beginner machine I still would recommend it, but it is light duty at BEST. It fits my needs, but anything besides a beginner or someone fixing a shirt… Maybe keep looking.

I bought this for my 8 yr old granddaughter. She has sewn on my top of the line machines with and without speed controls. I own many sewing machines, some that did not come with manuals. This machine, however, is a bit quirky. It has no corresponding manual in English. There are manuals available for other Hello Kitty models that can be referenced. The foreign language manual that comes with the machine has usable graphics for an experienced machine user. A child will need someone to sit with them/thread it for them, etc. Although the bobbin cover shows how the bobbin needs to be placed in the hook assembly, the bobbin thread path is a bit tricky but doable with patience. On the plus side, it sews with a good stitch quality. All stitches on the dial work. It has a nice protective presser foot. It comes with three Class 15 bobbins, USA power cord, foot pedal, one needle, non English manual and quick start guide, and a hand sewing needle threader. The motor is louder than anticipated. It does not have a light, power switch, or speed control on the machine. It has a steady speed, not very fast when foot pedal is fully engaged. The dial stitch selector is a good choice for a first time sewist vs. a push button stitch selector with separate stitch map. It is very lightweight, which is good for children. It seems like a high price for this machine and I'm apprehensive about it's longevity.
