  • Great machine for general use
Color: Blue
I mostly do things like jeans repair and the occasional hem or small clothing project. This is a nice, simple machine that does everything I need to do without being overly complex or temperamental. The pedal is easy to use and allows you to go really slow or really fast, depending on your project. When I first got it, putting the bobbin in place was a bit of a challenge but they have good instructional videos and one tip is to use a very different color bobbin from your main thread so you can see it easily when loading a new bobbin. The only thing I would wish for is a bit longer machine arm/sewing surface when you remove the base extension. It can be hard to get all the way up a pant leg without having to lift the machine a bit. I think this is a pretty standard challenge in all machines except the more expensive or specialized ones. I would recommend this machine and feel like it was a great value for the money- I've already paid for it by salvaging 3 pairs of jeans that I don't have to replace. ... show more

  • Great for beginners and experienced sewists alike
Color: Blue
I've been sewing since elementary school--so the better part of thirty years--and was looking to replace the 1970s Sears Kenmore machine that I'd learned on. This is marketed as an entry level machine, and it's definitely good for beginning sewists of any age, but it's enough of a workhorse that unless you're looking for a machine to do a lot of machine quilting or embroidery, it's good for experienced sewists too. I wasn't looking for any of the bells and whistles of a higher end machine because I never use more than a few different stitches, and this machine does everything I was looking for, including stretch stitches for garment construction. It's sturdy enough to sew denim, sews smoothly on a wide range of fabrics, and is simple and easy to use. The guts of the machine are all diecast metal, which is rare at this price point, and means that the machine should last practically forever. The only downside is that it doesn't come with an invisible zipper foot, and the invisible foot that Janome sells for this particular model isn't as versatile as I like. That was easily remedied by ordering a third-party adjustable invisible zipper foot, so my recommendation is to buy this machine and pick up the invisible foot your prefer from the seller of your choice. ... show more

  • Loving my sewing journey on this machine
Color: Blue
I have been designing clothes for some time... but couldn't sew on a machine! Not good. I bought this machine to encourage myself to finally learn how to sew and I am doing it! It is a straight forward, non-complicated machine that comes with quick instructions and more detailed instructions and pictures. Using these careful instructions, I have been able to figure out how to wind and install a bobbin and how to loop the thread from the holder on top around and round various parts of the machine and through the needle; which prior to my experience with this machine, always seemed like playing a game of "mouse trap" with no instructions. Super happy I bought this and I highly recommend it. Go on the Janome website and search for what additional presser feet you can order that go with this model! I got myself an overedge foot and am now doing professional-looking seams! ... show more

  • exactly right
Color: Blue
My main expensive sewing machine only has a straight stitch. I needed just a small machine for periodic zig zag, button holes, free arm, etc. This small inexpensive machine fits the bill and is such a fun color. Sews smoothly with very nice regular stitches.

  • Great Machine for the Price Point
Color: Blue
After having and using this machine for a little over a month - I'm thoroughly impressed. While in some ways you 'get what you pay for,' this machine does live up to the Janome name without price gauging you into sewing serfdom. Solid machine - simple stitches, and light enough to carry anywhere. This machine is certainly marketed to and best for beginners or hobby seamsters and seamstresses looking to get a quality machine that will meet their needs without all of the bells and whistles. After owning a Singer for many years - and never using any of the digital features, this machine was everything I needed. The fact that it comes in a variety of whimsical colors was an added bonus. Purchased the blue and I have a good smile every time I get it out of its case for a project. Professional or seasoned sewers might judge, but I won't. Just a quick FYI: those wishing to purchase a case for this machine can be assured this machine will fit the standard white, Singer carrying case. For added protection - I place the machine back into the styrofoam encasement it arrived in initially. Fits like a glove, no worries about it sliding around in the case if I'm walking with it anywhere or shoving it back into the closet when I'm done. If you have a young one interested in sewing, a beginner, of any age, or hobby sewer in your life looking for a sewing machine - this visually appealing and solid machine would make a great gift. ... show more

  • Easy to Use, Good Value.
Color: Blue
I have sewn some 50 years. I have owned a number of different brands of sewing machines. I do not sew as much as I used to. I bought this machine for my 10 year granddaughter and liked it so much that I bourgh one for myself. It pretty much can do what the average sewer needs. The instructions are easy to understand. The dials are uncomplicated. Filling a bobbin is so easy. I really don't need much more at this part of my life than, straight stich & zig zag although it has more than that. It is marketed as a "beginner sewing machine. 10 was a little young for my granddaughter but I knew I would be working with her. I really love this machine. The price I felt was very good for the quality of the machine. ... show more

  • Great durable time tested design, great machine
Color: Blue
This is a great machine. My mom taught me how to sew when I was younger and she had a machine just like this one. It's very durable and long lasting and has simple and time tested components and design. It's very portable with the carry handle and I can easliy place it on my desk or take it off and store it. I mainly have been using it tailor clothing to better fit me after I lost some weight. It works well and I think this will be a purchase that will last me a lifetime. ... show more
