  • Great machine after watching tutorials
Style Name: Janome 8002D Serger with free Bonus...
Just got mine today. It does require watching the enclosed DVD. Also there is a good tutorial on YouTube I highly recommend. My knife also had to be adjusted to prevent looping at the edge of my stitches. Everything is working great now. I recommend taking the time to watch instructions.

  • Excellent Serger at an Amazing Price!
Style Name: Janome 8002D Serger
I primarily use this machine to sew elastic into spandex/lycra fabrics for swimwear. The serged edges have elevated my garments to a more professional level. Easy to use. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to purchase.

  • This little machine is a "wow!"
Style Name: Janome 8002D Serger
Let me start by saying I have been sewing for over 50 years. I got out of the habit while I was working, but returned after retirement, with failing eyesight. This is my second serger. The first, the Husqvarna Huskylock S21, was a big mistake. Although it had many great features that convinced me to buy it, it cost way too much ($950!), was difficult to thread, had tension problems, and sat collecting dust for two years before I finally parted with it, at a tremendous loss. I thought my days of serging were over, but after a year or so, I wanted one again. I decided to go with a much cheaper machine with fewer features, hoping that it would be easier to thread and use. This Janome is a winner. I studied the reviews, and found it was even recommended for children and people with arthritic hands. This machine came threaded and ready to sew right out of the box. My first piece of fabric made a perfect seam. The instructional DVD is useful for explaining in great detail how to use each feature. (By comparison, let me just say the DVD that came with my expensive Huskylock was worthless. It only ran on a computer, and gave no advice on how to use the individual features, only how to thread it.) I hope this little serger lasts a long time, but only time will tell. If I get lucky and don't break any thread anytime soon, I can avoid having to thread it for awhile (using the pull-through threading method), but even so, it looks really easy compared to the Huskylock. I will update as time passes. ... show more

  • Now used hundreds of times
Style Name: Janome 8002D Serger
This machine is excellent in every way. The instructions have to be followed exactly and this requires one to read and understand the manual completely. If you do this and you don't accidentally feed metal through the needles you will probably enjoy having this machine for a very very long time. I've used it to make bags and clothing and piping and all kinds of things or I use it without any thread to cut out shapes from fabric. Be skeptical of bad reviews of this machine it is been around and it is well loved for very good reason. This machine is quiet if the needles are new and properly installed. There is no need to fret about threading it if you set it up on a table or platform at eye level. It is very lightweight and easy to do. This easily chops through two layers of upholstery fabric with cotton liners. I have used it with three and four threads. of the adjustments that are available are really great. It will do Ruffles and all of that but again you have to read the manual and follow the instructions and if you do so it is easy to use. So this will only be difficult for you to use if learning is difficult for you because the manual is very well written. ... show more

  • Add this beauty to your family, you will not regret it!
Style Name: Janome 8002D Serger
I absolutely love this Janome Serger. I was going to get a Brother serger but this beauty caught my eye. Since getting this serger it has been a life saver, it sews like butter and makes sewing garments much faster and the seams are clean. The machine came threaded which was awesome since I had never owned a serger before and trying to thread it for the first time seemed intimidating. So not having to thread before using it was nice. The manual helps a lot, and there's a coupls tools for you. There's a long tweezer to help with threading when it comes time to doing that, which definitely helped me when I did thread it on my own for the first time. I do not regret getting this serger, well worth the money. ... show more

  • This is a good machine, but not great
Style Name: Janome 8002D Serger with free Bonus...
This is a good machine, but not great. Ultimately, I returned it. I'll break it down for you: The Pros: It comes pre-threaded with spools of white thread included (nice!), a blind-stitch foot, extra needles, plus the tools you'll need (tweezers, large and small screw drivers, foot pedal, and instructions). Because it comes threaded, you can pretty much start stitching right out of the box, especially if you're experienced with sergers. It's relatively quiet, small and compact (great if you're strapped for space), and fairly light-weight with a notch in the back that acts as a handle for carrying. It also has a decent motor and stitches up nicely. The Cons: Although I kept the tension fairly low, at "3", it goes up to 9 or 10, my threads kept breaking, causing me to re-thread the machine often. That was a real bummer, not to mention a time kill. I didn't find it difficult to thread, but I do have many years of experience with sergers, but as soon as one thread broke, another one followed. Every time I took it out to sew, I would spend time having to re-thread it. It was terribly frustrating. I really wanted to like this machine, but I ultimately returned it. ... show more
