Description

Clean, professional seam finishes can transform the look and durability of your sewing projects. The Janome 8002D brings the speed and precision of overlock stitching into the home sewing space, allowing you to trim, stitch, and finish fabric edges in a single smooth step. Designed for garment construction, seam finishing, and creative projects, this versatile surger produces strong seams that resist fraying while maintaining flexibility for stretch fabrics. Whether you’re sewing everyday clothing, knit garments, or decorative home projects, the 8002D delivers. At the heart of the Janome serger machine is its 3- or 4-thread convertible overlock system, which allows you to choose the best stitch type for different materials and sewing techniques. A four-thread overlock creates strong, durable seams ideal for garment construction, while the three-thread option provides lightweight finishing for delicate fabrics or decorative edges. The machine also supports rolled hem stitching, making it easy to finish scarves and napkins with neatly rolled edges. Smooth fabric handling is essential for consistent seams, especially when working with stretchy or delicate materials. The adjustable differential feed system helps control how fabric moves through the machine, preventing unwanted stretching on knits or puckering on lightweight fabrics. Combined with speeds up to 1,300 stitches per minute, the over lock machine allows you to complete seams quickly while maintaining even, balanced stitching. Thoughtful design features help simplify setup and operation. Color-coded threading guides and clearly marked tension controls provide visual guidance when threading the machine, while the dependable mechanical construction ensures reliable performance over time. For sewists looking to add professional seam finishing to their workflow, the 8002D offers a practical balance of speed, control, and versatility.

  • This little machine is a "wow!"
Style: Janome 8002D Serger
Let me start by saying I have been sewing for over 50 years. I got out of the habit while I was working, but returned after retirement, with failing eyesight. This is my second serger. The first, the Husqvarna Huskylock S21, was a big mistake. Although it had many great features that convinced me to buy it, it cost way too much ($950!), was difficult to thread, had tension problems, and sat collecting dust for two years before I finally parted with it, at a tremendous loss. I thought my days of serging were over, but after a year or so, I wanted one again. I decided to go with a much cheaper machine with fewer features, hoping that it would be easier to thread and use. This Janome is a winner. I studied the reviews, and found it was even recommended for children and people with arthritic hands. This machine came threaded and ready to sew right out of the box. My first piece of fabric made a perfect seam. The instructional DVD is useful for explaining in great detail how to use each feature. (By comparison, let me just say the DVD that came with my expensive Huskylock was worthless. It only ran on a computer, and gave no advice on how to use the individual features, only how to thread it.) I hope this little serger lasts a long time, but only time will tell. If I get lucky and don't break any thread anytime soon, I can avoid having to thread it for awhile (using the pull-through threading method), but even so, it looks really easy compared to the Huskylock. I will update as time passes. ... show more

  • This machine is worth every cent I paid for it and more!
Style: Janome 8002D Serger
I love to sew knits and my new Janome made my sewing life much easier for me. So far I am primarily using this serger for sewing seams fast and secure. As I learn the machine's many capabilies, I know I will use many of the other features. It is very easy to use, not loud, and threading is a breeze with the clear directions in the documentation and those on the machine. I would recommend sewers to have this serger as it is easy to use and is a very reliable product. ... show more

  • Add this beauty to your family, you will not regret it!
Style: Janome 8002D Serger
I absolutely love this Janome Serger. I was going to get a Brother serger but this beauty caught my eye. Since getting this serger it has been a life saver, it sews like butter and makes sewing garments much faster and the seams are clean. The machine came threaded which was awesome since I had never owned a serger before and trying to thread it for the first time seemed intimidating. So not having to thread before using it was nice. The manual helps a lot, and there's a coupls tools for you. There's a long tweezer to help with threading when it comes time to doing that, which definitely helped me when I did thread it on my own for the first time. I do not regret getting this serger, well worth the money. ... show more

  • Brilliant little machine
Style: Janome 8002D Serger
Been using this guy for a couple months now and I love it. It comes in a large box with 4 small cone white thread already threaded into the machine which makes the set up so much easier. The thread runs out after a few uses but it'll last you until you get your replacement set of cone threads. Read the instructions and test run your machine with scrap fabric until you're happy with how it serge. It's a bit tricky to thread it when you want to change the thread color but it not anything someone can figure out by sitting in front of it and reading the diagrams for a bit (the inside has a threading diagram as well which helps alot). So, threading it takes some patience and practice but once you get it, you'll feel good that you figured it out. Totally worth the money and its a handy little machine. ... show more

  • We were able to have the machine do the stitch ...
Style: Janome 8002D Serger
We were able to have the machine do the stitch we wanted by adjusting the tensions. The lower looper is difficult to UNDERSTAND how to thread when you get to the last three steps. You really have to get down on the floor and look up into the machine on the left side to see the last two guides this thread has to go thru. The other threads were simple to follow by the guides. I was just surprised at how much noise this machine makes, guess I need the noise cancelling mat. The front cover rattles too, but seems to be part of the mechanism. Overall for the price, it is doing the rolled edge, which is what I wanted it to do. ... show more

Style: Janome 8002D Serger
This machine is excellent in every way. The instructions have to be followed exactly and this requires one to read and understand the manual completely. If you do this and you don't accidentally feed metal through the needles you will probably enjoy having this machine for a very very long time. I've used it to make bags and clothing and piping and all kinds of things or I use it without any thread to cut out shapes from fabric. Be skeptical of bad reviews of this machine it is been around and it is well loved for very good reason. This machine is quiet if the needles are new and properly installed. There is no need to fret about threading it if you set it up on a table or platform at eye level. It is very lightweight and easy to do. This easily chops through two layers of upholstery fabric with cotton liners. I have used it with three and four threads. of the adjustments that are available are really great. It will do Ruffles and all of that but again you have to read the manual and follow the instructions and if you do so it is easy to use. So this will only be difficult for you to use if learning is difficult for you because the manual is very well written. ... show more
