Quite a bit of research went on before this purchase. We wanted a good quality bed for our 5yo room; one that would last through the years, while still keeping plenty of floor space. This blue low-loft bed is exactly what I hoped it would be. Sturdy, easier to assemble than I expected, and just the right height. My 8 year old son is happy with it. This did take my husband and I to put it together- this is not a bed you can assemble alone safely. But it was pretty simple to follow the picture instructions and took us a couple of hours. It did have a smell but it was just the pine slats, so I wasn't too concerned about it. We let it air out a few days before assembling it in our son's room. No odor remains anymore. There is plenty of room under the bed to lounge, read, or play. I can sit up underneath the bed without bumping my head (I am 5'1") so I feel confident this bed will be fine for my son for several years before he outgrows it. With the mattress on the bed, the rails only come up about 6 inches higher than the mattress. At first, we were not sure that was enough, but he has been fine. It seems very sturdy and secure. We have had this bed for a few months now and have been completely happy with it. Great price, great bed. ... show more

Ok so it's heavy in the boxes to move yourself. But once you get it to where you want and open it up it's nice. Fairy easy to set up. I like that it can hold upto 400lbs. I don't know how accurate that is but I'm 230lbs and my son is 30lbs. I know we arent 400lbs but it holds us just fine. The grey paint we got look nice in his room as well. The step storage it helpful. We got this bed to help storage issues in a small room. And since he was going from a toddler bed to twin we really didn't have the room for that. So now with this bed all his toys fit underneath saving lots of room. Even tho the price was higher than others this was a better choice. The material is much heavier duty and has a higher weight limit then the ones half this price. The extra money was worth spending. ... show more

This bed is a great and sturdy bed for its value. It took me and my teenager just about an hour to easily set up with clear directions. I bought this specific bed because it had the right clearance under the bed to fit my kids dresser and open up space in her room. The dresser is 32" tall and just fits under the inside of the bed. The bed is extremely sturdy and is perfect for my 9 year old to grow into for years to come. My only issue is that the bed came in 2 packages at different times with no notification from the company that it would be in 2 packages. We got rid of the old bed and went to install the new bed with the first package however, the directions weren't there and parts were missing. I emailed the company and they promptly responded letting me know there was 2nd package and provided at tracking number. 2nd package came with parts and directions within 2 days and was able to complete the new bed quickly. So everything worked out and I'm really happy with the purchase. I would recommend and purchase again. ... show more

This bed has exceeded my expectations. Completely solid wood- I was shocked expecting some pieces to be cheap particle board. We got this for my 2.5 year old. I was so nervous about a loft bed for his age, but the stairs option has put my nerves completely at ease! And the storage in the stairs is such a bonus. Small-ish but still completely useful! Small blankets, sheets and his pajamas. Assembly Note: other reviews mentioned the stairs were a pain to put together so my husband and I put the stairs partially together one night and the rest of the bed another day. I think this was a great way to assemble. It wasn’t overwhelming and we didn’t have to rush anything. Also, while it’s not “recommended” we did use power tools and it went very quickly and easily. And I feel more comfortable with the sturdiness using a drill than just my finger strength and an Allen wrench. Total between the 2 days it was maybe 2-2.5 hours. And that’s with a toddler “helping” We purchased a 6” mattress which sits about the bottom/middle of the middle rail (see photos) perfect for my son and for my comfort level that he won’t somehow roll out. ... show more

Things I can hardly believe about this bed: 1) Heavy, solid wood without cracks or knots. The whole thing feels sturdy. 2) I was afraid the cherry color would be gloomy and boring, but it's really beautiful. 3) Metal drawer slides with wheels! They open and close very smoothly. 4) Wooden covers for unused holes makes it look detailed and high-end. 5) Fits my kid's 10" mattress... although barely. The rail is a little low for a 10" mattress, so for extra security I stuffed an old painting between the rail and the mattress to act as a rail extension. Super pleased with how well that worked. I imagine you could use cardboard, plywood, MDF board, or plastic panels the same way. ... show more
